Star of 'Kojak' Telly Savalas narrated a film about Birmingham in the 70s.

"We're in the heart of the West Midlands... there are over a million people in Birmingham... two million a year use its modern rail terminal... this is my kinda town."

But that was then and the city we see today is a very different place.

In order to get across just how changed it is, Marketing Birmingham (the City's development agency) spent £90,000 on a new promotional film. Businesses can order free copies to help market themselves and where they are located.

The result is a bold and fresh looking film - even the soundtrack is local! The band Murdoch also appear in the film.

Taking the film round the city and asking Brummies what they think came up with a mixed response: "It's fabulous, I think it's wonderful," said one woman.

But not everyone was so sure. The next to pass judgement said: "I really think we need to address the gap between the rich and the poor in Birmingham, and I'm not really sure this film is going to contribute to doing that."

The film will be shown in the glamorous resort of Cannes, to some of the world's most powerful property developers. The aim: to whet their appetite and entice them to build here and thereby bringing millions of pounds to the city.
