Every1else: review

By Lorraine McDonald, site user
Lorraine reviews in your face Birmingham indie-rock outfit Every1else at The Actress and Bishop.

Every1else, The Actress and Bishop, Friday 13th January 2005

Friday the 13th, often unlucky for some but certainly not for Indie-Rock band Every1else, a Birmingham band that are truly going somewhere,  as they gave a high octane performance at the Actress and Bishop tonight, showing that hard work and dedication really pays off.  Playing to a full house, whether this was down to good promotions or having a strong fan base, the band performed a fantastic set which was definitely enjoyed by the lively crowd.

In your face

Every1else have a unique and original sound which is a fusion of both Indie and Rock. Influenced by the likes of U2, Stereophonics and Oasis they have a northern style which reminds me of the Indie sound of the 90s but far heavier, upfront and in your face. With Dan on guitar and lead vocals, Matt on bass, Mark on drums and Webb on lead guitar, collectively they are strong and in turn create an extremely loud and powerful sound which automatically grabs your attention and really got the crowd going.

“Again and Again” a true anthem and my favourite, is reminiscent of “Champagne Supernova” live in terms of the guitar work, rasping vocals and powerful drums.
Loud cheers from the crowd were heard for “The Falling” which is an Indie classic driven by a thundering drum solo, where the lads encouraged the fans to start clapping to the beat. They later demonstrated their diversity when they performed the ballad “Make a Sound”, although a slower song than some of their other material it was still delivered with passion.

Looking around, people were clearly enticed by Evey1else’s stage presence as they energetically moved across the floor, getting into the groove along with the crowd, whilst having the swagger and air of arrogance like Oasis. These guys definitely know how to work the stage doing what they do best, whilst banter with the crowd was kept to a minimum they certainly let their music do the talking as the audience was captivated.

Alternative

Despite a slight technical hitch with the monitors blowing up (I did mention it was Friday the 13th) they still gave it their all and delivered a great performance. The fans were left slightly disappointed as the set was cut short due to an untimely start but this only left them heckling for more, thoroughly impressed by the band’s performance. Even though Every1else have only being doing gigs since May last year, they have come on leaps and bounds and are a fresh alternative to other bands currently circuiting the Birmingham live music scene.

Every1else are headlining the Flapper and Firkin on Friday the 27th January 2006.
