The roof of a house was ripped off and a nearby road was closed after it was littered with debris.

No-one was understood to be in the house at the time the high winds struck. Emergency services were called to an address in Dovey Road, Moseley, at 7:55pm last night after eyewitness reports of a "tornado". A spokeswoman for West Midlands Fire Service said: "The roof of an end terrace building was blown off but no-one was injured. "We had to close off Passey Road to clear up the debris scattered from the rubble. "We had several calls reporting high winds starting at about 4:40pm yesterday." In July, people ran in terror as a tornado ripped through the Kings Heath area of the city and overturned cars and tore up trees. Meteorological experts said the summer tornado may have been caused by severe thunderstorms, resulting in a mix of very warm air and cold air which started to spin. Heavy rain hit the West Midlands again yesterday, which led to the Environment Agency issuing four flood warnings in the region.

Witnesses around Dovey Road described seeing leaves swirling in the sky as the roof was dislodged last night, leaving masonry strewn in the road. One resident told BBC WM: "This is ridiculous, it's the second time this has happened. "I looked out of the window and the atmosphere was full of leaves so I came out and saw the roof of the house on the ground." Heavy flooding after torrential rain last night also blocked roads and increased journey times for commuters expecting a half-hour trip to up to two hours.
