Peter Andre arrived on stage, fashionably late, wearing jeans, sweatshirt and baseball cap. His casual dress sense was balanced out by his ‘bling’ jewellery, he was wearing diamond earrings and a dazzling engagement ring, which seemed to shine for miles! When on stage he apologised for being late, blaming fiancée Katie Price (a.k.a Jordon) for making him do several errands, before he travelled up the M6.

He then switched his focus to his music. He started with two upbeat songs. ‘Go’ in particular went down a storm. He wrote this song whilst in USA, with two American producers. It had a definite R ‘b’ B vibe, and was much edgier than any previous material. In the middle of the song he incorporated one of his older hits, ‘Flava’. This was a particular highlight for me. Having liked the song when it went to number one in September 1996, it was great to hear it again.

Next, was ‘Hotel California’ by ‘The Eagles.’ This was unexpected to say the least. But credit to Andre, he managed to hold the audience’s attention, despite most of them not knowing the song. He then followed this with another cover. This time it was Stevie Wonder’s ‘Lately.’ This beautiful song obviously has a lot of important connotations to Peter, he said it was his ‘favourite song.’ 

Mysterious Girl

Finally, the one song everyone was there to hear. People where shouting for it the moment Peter went on stage. Not to disappoint, he sang Mysterious Girl. The steel band, that had been on earlier, accompanied him. Thus, adding a different dimension to the now infamous song. The song was a huge success. But it is obvious from Peter Andre’s set list, he is determined not to become associated with just one song. He has got the confidence to go against record company wishes and produce the music he wants to create, and he must be credited for this.

Signing autographs for fans

After the performance I was lucky enough to interview Peter Andre. During the interview, he was nothing but kind. Despite time pressure, he did not make me feel rushed and answered all the questions fully. He also took time out to meet competition winners, and even listen to a poem one of them had wrote. He then went off to sign autographs for the hundreds of people waiting for him.

I must admit I was pleasantly surprised by number of fans who had turned up to support him. He has some really devoted, die hard fans, of all ages. But looking back on his career, this must be expected for someone who has had 8 top 5 hits and 1 number one album. With this support, the new musical direction Andre is determined to take is more than likely to be a success, and I hope it is.
