Jadeen meets Peter Andre
Jadeen meets Peter Andre

When Jadeen met Peter

By Jadeen Singh
Jadeen gets to interview pop hunk Peter Andre and digs deep on Peter's love of Big Brother - and gets the inside news on Katie Price and their new baby son.

On your website you say that you are starting to gain control of your music allowing you to present the songs you want your fans to hear. What type of songs would these be?

Peter Andre

I love old school melodies. I grew up listening to so much Motown, and you want to write what you grew up listening to. But when you sign with labels, and I mean everyone signed to a record company knows, that a lot of the time you’ve got to do what they want you to do.

Are people being more flexible now?

People are being flexible because thankfully for the first time in my life I can afford to do it now. If they don’t want to back it up I can do it myself- so I’m really happy about that.

You’ve said you’ve had to ‘sacrifice a little’, is this about the music?

Yeah it’s about music and plus because, look I don’t care I’m going to say this soon, there is one big reason my record company had a problem with me, and that’s because they didn’t want me to be with Kate (Price.)

(Shocked face by me)

Hey that’s the truth, that’s what they said and I’ll talk about it all in my book. How bad they were like that, but that’s how it happens. But the good side of it is I do what I want to do.

Will there be new music soon?

Definitely, I have got about 35- 40 of those (Motown) style of songs   that I’d just love to release.

How does Birmingham compare to Cambridge and Milton Keynes?

To be honest every place is really nice but this was by far the best reception. I don’t know whether it was because it wasn’t raining or something.

Was this the first it didn’t rain?

Yeah, it was the first one it wasn’t raining. I thought there would be 20-30 people, and I thought we’d just make the best of it. But when I got there people were really getting into it, it was great.

Do you enjoy playing live?

I love it, it’s the only time that no one can tell you how to do it. I get up and always sing it live, and everyone knows I’ll never mime, I hate it. So I’m glad, because it gives me a chance to show, you know. I’m not quite Stevie Wonder or like Usher, or whatever, but I’ve got my own style and I love doing what I do.

What do you most like to perform?

Umm…I’m a little bit over ‘Mysterious Girl’, as you can imagine! I like performing ‘Go’ and I really love Cool and the Gang.

Do you like performing other people’s songs?

Yeah, today is the first time I’ve done three songs of other peoples. That because I wanted to test out the variations.

I thought ‘The Eagles’ song ‘Hotel California’ was very unexpected.

Yeah I know, but I love all that stuff. I love Motown, Stevie Wonder, Micheal Jackson and all that. But on the other side, I love The Eagles and I love so many rock groups that I’d love to cover.

I thought rather than just ask all the usual questions, I’d ask a few random questions to get to know more about Peter Andre...

Did you watch Big Brother?

Loved it

Who did you want to win?

To be honest, Eugene. He had the best heart, he was the nicest guy. I thought Derek was great, and am a bit gutted that he left because I thought he brought entertainment to the house. Makosi- couldn’t stand her, thought she was a two faced cow.

Would you have taken the £50,000, like Eugene did?

I don’t know, you can’t say 'til you’re in that situation. I reckon he did the right thing. But the fact he showed remorse afterwards made him even better- he should have won it. Anthony, you know, he deserved to win. But Eugene was the king, I reckon Eugene for President!

Would you ever do Celebrity Big Brother?

I would. I was actually saying it to my brother today, I said, I’d love to do that.

Who are you supporting in the Ashes?

You know, I don’t follow cricket.

Do you prefer football?

In football I’d support England, no doubt. But in cricket I’d have to say Australia, sorry!

Who would you want to play you in a film?

If I had it my way, not that I’d ever get it, I’d love someone like Robert De Niro, because he’s the best.

What makes you smile?

My son

(Big Ahhh by me)

Does he look like you?

Unfortunately for him, yes, he looks just like me. But he’s gorgeous (I don’t mean because he looks like me), but he is just beautiful.

Has he smiled yet?

Just for the first couple of times, he’s given me a half smile.

And then Jadeen was dragged away....
