Group Scout Leader Abdullah Mussa of Birmingham's first official Muslim Scout Group has organised an event in Birmingham City Centre to unite all children from schools across the city in peace after the attacks in London.

Muslim scouts in Abdullah's group were concerned after the bombings and wanted to unite and show support and solidarity for the people of London and those mourning friends and relatives killed.

"Islam holds the sanctity of human life in the highest possible regard and shedding the blood of an innocent person is seen as a terrible crime" said Abdullah

"Birmingham’s first official Muslim scout group is taking the initiative to call for ALL children to unite against the recent attacks in London, at Victoria Square on Thursday 14th July 2005, from 18.00 to 19.00.

All children united

"The aim of this event is to bring together ALL children in the region to hold hands in unity against the attacks that took place in London last week. In doing so, we would like to express our condolences and show our solidarity with the families of the victims."

United in grief, united in peace

The Lord Mayor, Councillor John Hood, will be present while children hold hands, recite poetry and sing songs of peace. A minutes silence shall be observed at the end of the gathering, where the children will individually release a white balloon into the sky, as a symbol of ‘United in Grief, United in Peace’.

Books of Condolence will also be placed for the children to fill in.
