What's new on the BBC Big Screen?

Chamberlain Square in Birmingham city centre hosts some of the world's biggest musical and sporting events with the help of the Big Screen Birmingham.

BBC Big Screen facts

The BBC Big Screen works together with Birmingham City Council, electronics company Philips and the Royal Bank of Scotland.

The screen will remain in Chamberlain Square during the major restoration work to the Town Hall and while a new permanent site is selected.

The BBC provides editorial expertise and regular content - including news, weather and traffic updates.

The project is co-funded by all three collaborating organisers and the screen will operate without commercial advertisements.

Thanks to a giant hi-tech video screen, Chamberlain square has been an amphi-theatre for big events such as the Athens Olympics, Euro 2004, BBC Music Live with a live link-up to Belfast, The Eurovision song contest and Wimbledon.

The large video screen with a full sound system, is free-standing on the back of the Town Hall. The BBC worked with the city council, the electronics company Philips, and screen sponsors the Royal Bank of Scotland Group, to develop the screen.

It operates 24-hours a day with sound regulated appropriately to the time of night (mute) or day,  with continuous feed of local news, weather and traffic updates from BBCi.
