Faith in Action expedition team

We're going to Africa!!!

A team of young people from Aston have been given an opportunity to help those less fortunate than themselves, through the Faith in Action Africa project 2004.

The team are being trained up in various skills that they will use while spending several weeks in Uganda, November 2004.

Working alongside local Ugandan charities, they will work in teams constructing buildings and houses, delivering sports programmes and working out in the local community, with schools, churches and street kid projects.

Abseiling for charity...

The team organised and led a fun day of activities including face painting, sumo wrestling and abseiling down Aston Parish Church, on Saturday 12th June 2004, raising money to support the ongoing work in Africa. The day was funded by Aston Pride.

We're really looking forward to the trip...

Find out how members of the team are feeling about their trip to Uganda later this year.

I decided to join the Africa expedition team because it would be an experience that would take me out of my comfort zone.

I'm looking forward to us going out as a group and knowing I'm making a difference.

We've climbed mountains, slept in tents on the cold floor, orienteering in the dark and other really hard exercises.

I knew it would be a fantastic opportunity and a life changing experience. It's a big step for me.

I wanted to do something that I can look back on and tell my kids one day.

I'm looking forward to working with the children. I can't wait to go!

You hear so many rumours about Africa. I was a bit anxious at first but now we've had lots of training I'm a bit more prepared now.

But I don't know how I'm going to get on with the African food. I think that will be interesting!

After seeing what Faith in Action have done over the past few years and I really wanted to become part
of it.

Training's been tough. We climbed Mount Snowdon in the wind and rain and nearly got blown off. I'm looking forward to working with the children in Africa.
