Berlie Doherty

Berlie has been writing since she was a child. Her dad sent her stories and poems to their local newspaper, the Liverpool Echo, and they printed them!

Her first book, How Green You Are!, was published in 1982. Writing has been her full-time job since 1983. As well as writing books, she writes plays for the theatre, radio and TV.

She writes stories with a pen and paper first, and then types it up on the computer. She likes writing in a little barn that looks out across fields of sheep, or sitting on a riverbank. Sometimes her cat, Midnight, comes and sits on her lap while she's trying to write!

Berlie's books include:

  • Spellhorn
  • Street Child
  • Whizziwig
  • Children of Winter
  • Zzaap and the Word Master
