Lauren Child grew up in Wiltshire, the middle child of three sisters. She went to art school, travelled and had her own business, making exotic lampshades.

When she wrote and illustrated Clarice Bean That's Me, she decided to devote her time to writing and illustrating books for children, which combines her fascination for childhood and her talent for designing and creating.

Her favourite sandwich is ham and cheese and if she had to be an animal she would be a cat because ‘they have it made’!
