Simon Cheshire

Simon Cheshire grew up in Warwickshire and absolutely hated school. On the whole, it didn't like him much either and so he spent a lot of time staring out of the window - which is where he gets his best ideas.

He started writing when he was sixteen, and for fifteen years he wrote books, films and plays which he says were utter rubbish. After going to university Simon worked selling other people's books until his boss decided he'd had enough of his silliness.

When he was 30 he started writing children's stories because he could fill them with explosions, robot camels and alien invasions. Now his books have been published all over the world and in several languages.

Simon writes in a tiny room that used to be a walk-in cupboard, but which is now crammed with books, pieces of paper and empty chocolate bar wrappers. He says he is allergic to cats, horses and the entire city of Coventry.

He has written three books about Jeremy Brown, a schoolboy who is really a secret agent like James Bond. Jeremy Bond and the Mummy's Curse and Jeremy Brown on Mars have both been read on Big Toe Books. His other books have great titles like Me and My Big Mouse, They Melted His Brain! and Pants On Fire. His latest book is Saxby Smart: Private Detective – The Eye of the Serpent (January 2009).
