Tom Daley
DIVING TO SUCCESS

It's not every day that you get a welcome home like this! For young diver Tom Daley, his return to Plymouth from Rome clutching Gold was a brilliant event.

The Plymouth Big Screen hosted a welcome home parade and celebration for the city's World Champion diver Tom Daley with a crowd of around 1,500 packed into the Piazza. Upon Tom's arrival at the Big Screen, raucous applause filled the piazza.

A civic reception was laid on for the 15-year-old, followed by an open top bus tour along the city's Royal Parade. Afterwards Tom met the Lord Mayor at the Big Screen and was interviewed by Blue Peter presenter Joel Defries for the TV show's series in the autumn. Highlights of Tom's performance in Rome were also shown on the Big Screen.

Tom showed his gold medal to the crowds having won the 10m diving category at the world championships. To honour his achievements, he was presented with a gold Blue Peter badge by Joel Defries. Only a select band of people have ever received a gold Blue Peter badge - the Queen is one of them.

You can watch some film of the event, and read more, on the BBC Devon website.
