Simon spotting lions

Simon King is one of the most talented and knowledgeable people working in natural history film making. Born in Kenya to parents in the music and television industries, he moved to the UK soon afterwards. Simon started his career as a child actor. For the past 30 years he has worked all over the world as a director and producer and more famously as a cameraman and presenter on many popular wildlife programmes. Simon's passion and enthusiasm for the natural world has recently been seen on Springwatch and Autumnwatch.

If Simon could be any animal it would be a peregrine falcon, "flying 200mph at 1,000ft would be amazing".

You may already know that Simon enjoys photographing wildlife and taking long walks, but you may not know that he is also a qualified scuba diver, composes music to play on his Irish flute and enjoys drawing and painting. From an early age he wanted to be firstly an elephant and secondly a zoo keeper before following his passion for wildlife film making.

Simon has been a Big Cat Diary presenter from the programme's beginning in 1996. During the live week this year he'll be tracking down and reporting on the lion action, and showing us what these magnificent animals get up to after dark.
