Boot Led Zeppelin @ Reading Concert Hall, Blagrave Street, Saturday 28th February 2004.

On Saturday night 750 people were well and truly Zepped in the Reading Concert Hall. The perpetrators? An awesome tribute band who, if you shut your eyes, made you think you were listening to the real Led Zeppelin.

Luke the singer
Luke, aka Robert Plant
Luke the singer has a vocal range so magnificent that were the original Robert in the audience he might have felt completely supplanted, if you'll pardon the pun.

And Raff, aka Jimmy Page, could have rivalled the real one any day, even coming out with a double-headed guitar for Stairway to Heaven.

Raff, aka Jimmy Page
The audience, young and old, were enraptured - I caught some forty-something men doing air guitar - and everyone clapped and stomped for an encore after the three-hour set.

With actual long hair (no wigs here) and a costume change in the second half, Boot Led Zeppelin entertained the crowd with the mega-hits and the lesser known tracks.

They kicked off with We Gonna Groove, followed with Sick Again, Bring it On Home, Battle of Evermore, and didn't stop until the tenth song Kashmir.

Luke
"aaaa-aaaah"

The second set started with Immigrant Song, with the audience sufficiently tanked up to screech the lengthy 'aaaa-aaaahhh' part. Then came songs such as Black Dog, Since I've Been Loving You, Stairway to Heaven, Misty Mountain Hop and Whole Lotta Love.

During the gig Luke (Plant) threw ampules of glitter into the crowd, resulting in some punters sparkling copiously throughout the night. He also lunged the microphone towards the crowd at times and got them roaring some of the popular parts of songs.

Luke before the church organ
The band played in front of the Concert Hall's church organ.

The entertainment continued with keyboardist Steve at one point playing the colossal church organ they performed in front of.

The sell-out crowd knew the band couldn't leave before playing Rock and Roll, which they did in the encore. Not one person was standing still, all were cheering, singing, whooping - including myself.

Right, I'm off to buy Led Zeppelin's greatest hits.

Raff
What an outfit!

Next gigs are Friday March 5th at The Cartoon in Croydon, Saturday March 13th at the Grey Horse in Kingston, and Saturday June 12th at The Cauliflower in Ilford.
