Ricky
Gervais Place, Ricky Gervais Road, or even Mr Toad Terrace (after
one of Brent's nicknames), these are just some of the names that
a Reading street could be called to honour the town's comedy hero.

Gervais at the Golden Globe awards |
Following
Reading-born Ricky's double Golden Globe win, the borough council
sees naming a street after him as a fitting tribute.
The
co-writer and star of British sitcom The Office would have to give
his permission before his name can be used but Ricky's name has
been put forward to Reading Borough Council highways officers for
consideration.
If
Ricky does give his permission, he will follow in the footsteps
of former Wokingham resident Ayrton Senna and Reading-born Kate
Winslet, who also have streets named after them.
Lead
councillor for cultural services at the council, Jon Hartley, said:
"It is great to see a home-grown talent like Ricky picking up international
awards.
"Ricky
is a very funny man who talks about Reading with humour and affection
and I think it would be fitting for the council to come up with
a tribute to him, though what form it should take is currently up
for discussion."
The
idea to use Ricky's name has been cleared with the emergency services
and with the post office. If a developer wanted to use it the council
would then approach Mr Gervais to seek his approval.
Perhaps
now it's only a matter of time before Slough, the home of The Office,
will make a request to have a David Brent Road.
