Russell Crowe as Robin Hood
Russell Crowe is real-life Robin Hood
Playing a good guy on screen has obviously rubbed off on Hollywood film star Russell Crowe. The actor, who is filming in nearby Swindale Forest, popped into a Cancer Research shop in Sunningdale and handed over a £1,000 donation.
Staff at the charity shop in Sunningdale, Berkshire, said they were 'star-struck' by the visit from the actor on Wednesday 22 July, who is currently filming Robin Hood nearby.
One volunteer said: “We couldn’t believe it when Russell Crowe came into our shop and gave us the money. We knew he was in the area filming, and had been hoping to catch a glimpse of him. We were all a bit star-struck, but it was lovely to meet him and he stopped and had a bit of a chat with us.”
Manager of the shop, Julia Deane, said she was 'gutted' to have missed the actor on her day off.
"He comes to the cafe next door because he's filming nearby." she said. "I've seen him a couple of times. He just came into the shop and the lady at the till was serving someone else at the till.
"She didn't recognise him. He asked if we took donations and she told him that we do in the back of the shop.
"She gave him the book to fill in his name and he wrote Russell Crowe."
"I'm here five days a week as manager of the Cancer Research shop, on the one day I'm not here, Russell Crowe comes in!"
The shop is hoping their celebrity supporter will encourage people to come along to their children's fancy dress day on Saturday, 1 August at 1pm. Prizes on offer include trips to Legoland, Birdworld, Discovery Centre and Coral Reef.
