Eleanor's Blast Diary

Find out what being a BBC Blast reporter is all about by catching up with Eleanor Vale, BBC Berkshire's new arts reporter, to see what she's been getting up to this summer.

21-24 August: Reading Festival

Find out about my weekend of musical mayhem here:

Wednesday 27 August

With festival fever over for another year, it’s time to find a new project.

I was forwarded an e-mail this morning about the violinist chosen to perform next to David Beckham at the Olympic handover ceremony in Beijing. Her name is Elspeth Hanson and she just so happens to be a Berkshire lass.

This is right up my street, and I’m really excited to have the chance to speak to a classical musician.

Booking a phone interview with her was no problem, and she was a wonderful interviewee.

I spent the afternoon putting an article together and listening back to her story of the Beijing ceremony.

I was amazed to her that before the ceremony herself and the other performers were all shaking with nerves, and that David Beckham helped to calm her down!
