The art of protest

The art of protest

Fed up with no one listening when you try and talk about things? Want to find out how you can use your creativity to make a point? Well, if you are aged 14-25 the Art of Protest is coming to Reading to show you how to make people sit up and listen.

Thursday 29 May | 10am – 4:30pm | entrance £5
Open to 14 - 25 yr olds
RISC | 35-39 London Street | RG1 4PS

Now, the art of protest isn't going to teach you to shout so loud that people will have no choice but to listen to you.

Instead artists John Hogget and Carla Conte will teach you how to create performances, pictures and anything else that will grab people’s attention and make them want to know more about what you are singing, playing, acting or painting about.

John is an experienced facilitator and theatre practitioner who has worked with a variety of groups to help them reflect and debate on social issues.

He will introduce you to a method called 'Street replay', a technique he has used previously with young people from Reading to help them see how older generations may view them.

Carla is a local artist from Slough, she works with schools and her work is often informed by different cultures and global affairs.

Through this she has become more aware of differing ways art is used and the positive effects it can have.

She will also be talking about her experiences with young people in Bolivia who create and distribute their own paper, similar to The Big Issue.

So why not head on down to RISC on London Street, don't forget to book your place by contacting: shehnoor@risc.org.uk and don't forget a packed lunch!
