We'll be snapping lots of photos on the day, but we'd like you to send in your photos - from your camera or phone - and send them to:

BBC Radio Berkshire presenter Louise Chandler has been asking for your favourite carnival memory on her Sunday night show (9pm - 10pm).

Jeff Hinds runs a calypso event at South Street arts centre, here is his memory of the first ever Reading Carnival:

About the carnival

What started in 1977 as part of the Queen's Silver Jubilee celebrations has now developed into a huge community event with thousands enjoying a day-long Caribbean party.

"Listen to my show for Carnival updates - every Sunday from 9pm to 10pm on BBC Radio Berkshire - 104.1FM, 104.4FM, 95.4FM and 94.6FM."

Barbados community and presence is strong because Reading is twinned with Speightstown. Reading's population of Bajans is the biggest anywhere in the world outside the island.

A colourful parade with dancing, costumes and floats kicks off the day's festivities, that culminates in live music and fun activies at Prospect Park in Reading.

The procession includes community groups and representatives from local West Indian islands i.e. Barbados and Friends and the Grenada Association.

You won't miss the sound systems that travel though the streets – they are loud!

There will be stalls selling a variety of local Caribbean food and drink and the outdoor concert at Prospect Park features ragga rock headliner Magnet.

BBC Bus at the Reading Carnival!

This year we have the BBC Bus so do to come and see us at the bus and learn how to broadcast and take part in numerous activities.

By the bus you can discover the sounds of Calypso music by learning how to play the Steel Pan with the Reading All Steel Percussion Orchestra.

Previous costumes will be exhibited on the bus with photo displays from previous years of the carnival.

Come on board and use the computers on the bus to design a carnival costume for a BBC Radio Berkshire presenter.

If you're part of a local Caribbean groups then come and visit us with items that represent your home island.
