Slough eased past Peterborough Phantoms thanks to a stylish brace from man of the match Nicky Chinn, but goalkeeper Skinns pulled off save after save as the away side turned up the heat in the third period. After the game coach Steve Moria said his number one between the pipes has a bright future in British hockey. Help playing audio/video "Dean Skinns had a great third period, some of the saves he made were outstanding. "He's solid, he's improving, he's young and I think he's one of the top goalies in the league. "People don't see him as that yet, he's still a bit raw and unnoticed, but he's a committed individual and wants to be at the top." Moria had to watch his Jets team allow the Phantoms a number of chances to get back into the game after a half-hour stoppage for injured Peterborough goalie Stephen Wall.
"It was a strange game. For the first couple of periods we were outstanding and totally controlled the game. In the third period we started making mental mistakes. "These guys like Rempel, Foremsky, Gough and Archer are snipers, they can score goals and capitalise. "We were doing things out of character, making silly mistakes, and finally I thought it was best to call a time-out because we needed a wake-up call." ![]() Nicky Chinn. "It's great to have Nicky Chinn back and when he shoots the puck, things happen. At times he likes to be the playmaker but in my opinion that's not his strength, making plays or trying to get assists. "Nicky's strength is his power game, shooting and scoring, and that's what he was doing tonight. He scored two and hit the crossbar. ![]() Jan Krajicek. Photo (C) Simon Curtis "It's absolutely phenomenal having Jan Krajicek on our team. Sometimes you think - what is he doing out there? He's going up the ice on his own beating three guys. "You think, oh my God, please don't do this, it's not going to come off. But ninety-nine point nine per cent of the time he gets away with it and he's probably the most talented hockey player in our league." Looking ahead, the coach refuses to get distracted by anything but the next game. "Obviously the priority is the league but we go game by game, regardless of if it's the league or whatever cup - we go out there to win. The goal is to win the hockey game. "We can't get ourselves in a situation where we're losing hockey games. A good team gets on a roll and develops momentum." last updated: 05/11/07 You are in: Berkshire > Sport > More Sport > Ice Hockey & Basketball > Moria praises 'unnoticed' Skinns |
