Slough Jets 7-8 Guildford Flames

The visiting Guildford Flames came back from the dead then stole a penalty shot victory in an unbelievable game of ice hockey at The Hangar. Listen to highlights and hear from Slough coach Steve Moria.

Leading 6-3 at the start of the third period in their opening EPL game of the 2007/08 season, the Slough Jets must have felt they had the points firmly in hand.

And - in a final period that started quietly before thundering into life - the Jets were still leading by three by the halfway mark, the score 7-4.

But the Flames found a fifth goal before, in a staggering final phase, short-handed Guildford produced the ice hockey of their lives: Jozef Kohut scoring twice despite Slough's man advantage to take the game into overtime.

With the deadlock unbroken the game went to penalty shots. Ciccarello scored for the Jets but Emersic and Chinn missed, leaving Guildford's Vaclav Zavoral to wrap up an astonishing Flames victory.

"We deserved to win this game," Slough coach Steve Moria told BBC Berkshire afterwards.

"It's just a matter of four, five or six minutes where we just relaxed - in a game where you can't relax, ever.

"When it got to 7-4 it was like, 'We've won the game', which you can never think. It's unbelievable what happened."

Moria, whose Jets supported the recent move for league games to be decided by a shootout, might just be regretting that now.

"It was a great game of hockey, everyone loved it and it came down to the scenario everyone hates, the shootout. But that's life."
