Audio and Video links on this page require Realplayer It's a long way from Las Vegas to Caversham, but that's a good thing: it means when we give Clint Deas a call at 6.30am on Friday, he's still awake at 10.30pm on Thursday. Clint, from North Carolina, is bringing his six-foot eight-inch frame to Berkshire as the figurehead for the Reading Rockets' next basketball campaign. He tells us he's ready to go and isn't about to start losing. "I want to take all the cups, all the trophies, win the league, everything. I'm really excited about it. "I'm a guy who's going to go in and work hard. I'm a winner, I love to win and don't take losing easily."
'Something special'Clint already has plenty of experience in the British game, having played last season with the Sheffield Arrows. He says his performances for the Arrows got him his move south to Reading. "I was with the Arrows and playing with a lot of intensity - I probably had one of my best games of the year, and Reading caught interest in my game and my style of play, being an aggressive, hard worker. "I've had a chance to meet everybody and hopefully it'll turn out to be great when everybody gets together, and we'll make something special happen in Reading." ![]() Clint Deas starring for Appalachian State Uni English supportOf course, England remains something of a minor player as far as basketball is concerned, but Clint insists American players don't shy away from crossing the pond. "It is an attractive place to play, just because it's growing in England. "Last year in Sheffield not a lot of people came to our games, but as the season went on we met people throughout the town with an appreciation for how hard we're working, the love we have for what we do. "English people really support their athletics and their sport. It'll never be on the level of soccer but basketball's growing in England and Americans really enjoy the support we get from English fans." 'A great fit'And Clint's even looking forward to moving down to Reading, having had a quick tour before returning to the American West. "I went to visit Reading before going back to America. It was a nice area - I visited the Rivermead Centre and everything was top notch. "The area was a really nice, 'home' kind of place. It was a great fit. I'll arrive in Reading in late August and I'll be focused on what lies ahead." last updated: 29/06/07 Have Your Say
