Postcards from Sri Lanka

BBC South Today's Ben Moore spent a week in Sri Lanka to survey the work of the Reading Initiative for Tsunami Action, two-and-a-half years after the tidal wave struck. Watch his video reports here.

In this video, Ben Moore visits the elephants from the Pinawala orphanage, which was founded in 1975 and is state-run, but ran into severe difficulties when the tsunami struck, as Keerti Singham from the orphanage explains.

Ben also visits a cricket pitch that looks more like a mud bath for the elephants, but it's hoped that the ground will host a test cricket match at the end of the year.

Finally, Ben explores the coastlines of Sri Lanka, where once the tourist trade boomed. People like Manick Rodrigo, owner of Barberyn Reef Hotel, hopes that holiday-makers will once again return to the now struggling tourist areas.
