This page will be regularly updated with your memories. The best of them will be featured on BBC Radio Berkshire programmes between now and the end of the season. Getting the ball rolling, BBC Radio Berkshire's Tim Dellor and Joel Hufford... Tim Dellor How do you pick one moment from nearly three thousand minutes of Premiership football spread over eight months? There are the crucial goals, like the Lita winner against Middlesbrough, the Doyle penalty against Manchester United or the Seol strike at Upton Park. For sheer brilliance Emre's screamer for Newcastle and Bentley's netbuster for Blackburn would be the pick of the goals conceded.
But Premiership football is about so much more than goals. Obscurely, the loudest roar came when Bobby Convey picked up the ball and ran towards the corner flag deep into injury time as Reading hung on for a 1-1 draw against Manchester United. Both visits to Old Trafford and Anfield were real treats. Proper football, played at proper grounds. What sticks in my mind most vividly from the past eight months? Twice I have met unlikely A-list celebrities at Reading football matches. Former Prime minister John Major may be disappointed to hear my most magic moment was meeting Sylvester Stallone before Reading's game at Goodison Park. Rocky was greeted by thousands of chanting Liverpudlians as he stepped from his very Hollywood limo. Generous with his time, friendly and genial, he didn't necessarily provide a magic moment - more a memorable meeting. Joel Hufford They say that an army marches on its stomach and the same goes for the BBC Radio Berkshire commentary team.
Never mind visiting some of the best stadia in the world and seeing some of the best players on the planet strutting their stuff, my moment of Reading's first ever season in the Premiership came pre-match in the press lounge at Fulham. We were treated to a lunch of bangers, mash and mushy peas, all served up by exotic Brazilian waitresses. It really doesn't get much better. Barry & Kirstin Webb, Kaitaia NZ. As a life long supporter of Reading FC (43 years now) and ex-pats, my daughter Kirstin and I had the pleasure of a visit to the UK over Christmas and New Years, and the great pleasure of watching 3 games at the 'Mad Stad' during that time, with the historic 6 - 0 thrashing of West Ham being a memory for life. It's so great to see Reading in the Premiership, and watching them live on TV over here in NZ, and what a fantastic contribution they are to that league, and long may it last...can't wait for the next visit. Andy in North Stand Taking my daughter to the Mad Stad for her first ever match on her 6th birthday & we saw them put 6 past West Ham! Colette, aged 9
My favourite moment is when Doyle put his penalty past Man United. Glyn Jones Peter Linton buying a pint. Woody The 6-0 thrashing of West Ham must be one of the highlights (shame Pardew wasn't still in charge for the Hammers) along with the first half of our home game against Villa when Glen Little tore Gareth Barry apart, arguably the best football that we have played this season. Finally, the funniest game was away to Birmingham in the Carling Cup when one Blues supporter was taking stick from what seemed like all of the travelling Reading fans. Seeing him turn in to Mr Angry was quality. Robert There have been lots of magical moments over the past 8 months but for me one of the most emotional was at 2.55pm on the 4th November. Reading's first away Premiership match against one of the "Big Four" found us opposite the Kop seeing and hearing the Liverpool fans as they sang "You'll Never Walk Alone".
This experience really brought home to me just how far Reading have come since I first saw them play in front of a crowd of less than 7,000 just seven years earlier. It still brings a tear to my eye thinking about it now! Mark Has to be Middlesbrough on the first day of the season! All the emotions of football in one match. The Madstad rocking & the East stand in full cry. Jack Leaver, aged 16 My best moment was when Leroy Lita scored the winner against Middlesbrough. I have never been so happy in my life! That moment will always be special. Cheeryoleary The feeling of the East stand oscillating as Kevin Doyle scored from the penalty spot against Manchester United. Gary Fleming
I think my Magic Moment is the variety or emotions seen during the Middlesbrough match: Before the game - nervous excitement to how we'll react. 20 minutes into the game - many people realising that we could struggle. 45 minutes- Steve Sidwell's goal, the fans and his reaction followed. Just after half time - Leroy's goal and the range of emotions from me and fellow supporters I'm sure will live with fans for a long time Stacey Cross Best moment of this season - that's a tough one, there have been so many!! But I've got to go with Kevin Doyle's goal against Man U at home!!! Not only did no-one (ie the media, etc) expect us to get a goal past them, but we were beating them and gave them as good as we got. It was an amazing feeling to be 1-0 up against Man U and the atmosphere was buzzing around the Mad Stad. For a life-long royals fan it was a dream come true and I'm sure that goal meant a lot to everyone, including the players!!! Harry in Yateley My favourite moment this season was Brynjar Gunnarsson's equaliser at Old Trafford in the FA Cup. Matt
My favourite moment of the season was the demolishing of West Ham. Steve the Monkey Either Man City away, singing the 'European Tour' song all through the game and also Man U away when Sonko scored which was amazing! RFC Spikey The Royals beating the happy Hammers 6-0 was a great performance and did the club proud! Graham Cox My magic moment of the season was the surging run of Nicky Shorey in the first game against Middlesborough. That brought the first goal and kick started a wonderful lifetime's dream. Andybsroyals, Reading
1 - Chips and Gravy outside Anfield! 2 - John Madejski stalking me on the M6 Toll services 3 - Manchester City serving BIG PINTS Chris in Lower Earley My magic moment was when we scored our 2nd goal at Newcastle and we all went wild high up in the St. James' Park roof. June and Claire One of our magic moments was when Wally Downes came into the West Stand and let us hold the Championship trophy. Martin Doyle, Woodley My magic moment was when we played Manchester United at home. As I took my seat I was asking all my cronies around me to pinch me as I could not believe that we were playing Man Utd. But when we scored the opening goal everybody around me leaned forward and pinched me. It was a magic moment going ahead at home against Man Utd. Alex Flahive, Tadley
My highlight must be getting a DAB radio and listening to BBC Berks commentary for the first time...The thing is, all I can remember is Tim Dellor and Joel Hufford arguing over if it was raining or not. Kate How can one moment be picked from 40+ games. Being 3-0 down to Liverpool in the cup and coming back to 4-3 looking like we could snatch an equaliser to take the draw. Brynjar's equaliser at Man Utd, Doyle's pen against Man Utd, starting 2007 in the best possible way 6-0 against West Ham. The atmosphere of all the fans week in week out home and away. The fact we have been in the top half of the league almost all season. The fact we are fighting for a European spot. The happy chants of "Shorey for England" to "We're all going on a European tour" But for me my moment of the season, the one that takes the number one spot, the one that nothing else can beat has to be the first game of the season, being 2-0 down to Middlesborough and feeling as though this season was going to be a one long journey, to coming back to win 3-2. How could I ask for any more from the players, coaches, manager and all the back room staff that never get noticed. |
