This month the Ghost Medics were asked to have a look around the Mansion House in Prospect Park in Reading, so I decided to join them. | "She told the mediums in the group that in her real life she was killed by a man, who is also haunting the building." | |
Staff working in the restaurant and bar there had reported some very strange goings on, and Paul Devlin, chief Ghost Medic, decided it was time to investigate. We arrived at around 11pm, because you're likely to get the most activity around and after midnight. It took half an hour or so before anything really happened, but when it did we had some really interesting encounters... The first significant spirit we met was a young girl, aged around six, who we believe was called Olivia or Sophia. ___________________________________________ Listen to Paul trying to make contact with Olivia here: ___________________________________________ We were standing near the bar end of the main room downstairs, and saw brightness down at the other end of the room, even though all the lights were off. She told the mediums in the group that in her real life she was killed by a man, who is also haunting the building, because she got on his nerves and he lashed out at her. It emerged that he was never brought to justice for his crimes and the mediums in our group said he wasn't sorry about what happened. The staff at the Mansion House said that customers had reported sightings of a young girl, who wasn't really there. We encountered the spirit of a gentleman in a corridor upstairs, and when Jo (Ghost Medic assistant) took some pictures of the empty corridor, we captured images of an orb which was clearly following us down the corridor.

Again staff at the Mansion House confirmed this was somewhere they had felt a strong presence and often felt like they were being watched. We also encountered spirits in what's believed to have been the bedroom of Francis Kendrick. Legend has it he married a woman who challenged him to a sword-fight, and told him he had to marry her, or fight her - a fight which he would lose and be killed in. So he married her and lived out his days in the Mansion House.

The mediums in our group connected with the spirit of a woman, who we think used to work in the room as a nurse or a sister when it used to be a hospital ward. We felt the floor and table shaking, as if someone was walking up and down the room. All in all it was another successful night of ghost hunting... next time we're doing Caversham Park House - the home of BBC Radio Berkshire!
