Centre stage at Cox Green Library

Two years ago the library at Cox Green in Maidenhead was just a container in a car park. Now it's a modern, airy library, the hub of a community, and home to a RaW day out!

It's only two years since Cox Green library was attracting just 9,000 visits a year. In twelve months that figure increased to an incredible 90,000.

Almost by way of celebration the RaW Storytelling Roadshow arrived in March 2007.

Story-teller Mike O'Leary's scary thunder machine

Professional storyteller Mike O'Leary entertained parents and children in the morning, with BBC Radio Berkshire there to capture the atmosphere during the Richard Skinner Show.

In the afternoon award-winning author Tim Bowler explained to the gathered throng just what inspired him to become an author, gave away signed copies of his books, and answered a string of searching questions from young and old.

And throughout the day Quick Read books were given out in large number and a steady stream of parents took away a Max & Lara bookmark, pledging to make that phone call to order a storytelling pack.

Emma Wallace and her hard working team of Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead Library Service colleagues had never seen the library so alive, and more RaW activity like this is bound to follow!
