The FA Cup trophy
Will Graeme Murty get his hands on this?

Reading revved up for the cup against Brum

After the controversy of Sheffield United, Reading will be hoping for a quieter day at the office on Saturday 27 January in the FA Cup 4th Round at Birmingham City. We talk to Stephen Hunt, full-back Ulises de la Cruz and goalkeeper Adam Federici.

Following the stormy 3-1 win over Sheffield United, Reading play Championship high-flyers Birmingham City in the FA Cup 4th Round.

Several fringe players will get another opportunity to impress, with Dave Kitson and Bobby Convey likely to feature too.

Listen to interviews with Stephen Hunt, Ulises de la Cruz and Adam Federici.

  • You were the man who scored in that game at St Andrew's last season. You'd like to repeat that trick I assume?

"Yeah, getting a goal anytime will do me to be honest with you. It's a good ol' cup tie and we'll be going there looking to win the game."

  • Did you watch Birmingham versus Newcastle in the 3rd round replay because I thought Birmingham looked a very useful outfit in that one.

"They played very well, surprised me a little bit. I know they've been playing well, but they played some brilliant football, attacking football. It looks like they've got things together again and are going in the right direction."

"Some people seem to think 'here comes trouble' and stuff like that but I didn't do anything so they can get lost"

  • Amid all the hoo-ha last Saturday, your rather acrobatic goal was overlooked wasn't it?

"I was delighted with the goal but it's a shame everything gets overshadowed again, not for me but for the whole of the club. Some people just don't seem to write the right stuff and it's as simple as that."

  • Are you fed up with being the centre of attention in unfortunate circumstances?

"I must admit I am a bit fed up with it. It won't affect the way I play but it's disappointing because it was nothing to do with me last Saturday and yet some people seem to think 'here comes trouble' and stuff like that but I didn't do anything so they can get lost."

  • How much does the FA Cup mean to you from Ecuador? Is it well-known over there?

"Yes, it's a big competition. For me it's the second most important competition behind the Premiership."

  • You must be very pleased with how things are going for you at Reading at the moment?

"Yes, I have big motivation now. The body is fine, I am focused every game, work hard and look for a place in the team."

  • How much did you enjoy your goal last week against Sheffield United?

"I've tried many times to score. You remember in the Carling Cup (against Darlington) I went close in the same goal, but this time my Wife said 'It's my Birthday! It's my Birthday! You'll maybe score for me'. I said 'Ok, I'll try this time, maybe not missing the opportunity'."

  • After your heroics against Burnley, are you confident of continuing in the same vein?

"Yeah I hope so, just looking forward to the game, and getting out and playing again."

  • How much do you enjoy it, having watched Marcus a fair bit?

"Yeah I watch him a lot. Obviously a lot of experience there. He gives me a lot of confidence."

  • Are people following your progress with interest back home in Australia?

"Yeah they are. I've got a lot of support back home. My efforts are just starting to get much more publicity there and I'm getting a lot of text messages from mates saying Well Done."

  • I remember talking to you after the Burnley game and you said you'd rather have Newcastle because more people at home would have heard of them.

"Yeah but obviously Birmingham are a massive team and are on a really good roll at the moment so it's going to be a very good game, and a very tough one."

  • You got loads of plaudits after the Burnley game. I saw you on Sky TV and on the back pages of the papers. Was that enjoyable? A bit intimidating? How did you react to that?

"No it was fine. I've always been in and around it so I know what it's all about. It doesn't bother me one bit, so it's good."
