Gregory Isaacs arrived at the Jamaican High Commission in London to the sound of saxophones playing and with a pretty girl on each arm - what an entrance. Known as the leader in reggae and lovers' rock, Gregory Isaacs introduced many people to the music that has lasted through the decades. The 'Cool Ruler' may have been in the music business for nearly 40 years but he's still as respected as ever. 'Hard work' "I've had some wonderful times doing my performances live and in the studio," he told me. "From going to school my favourite subject was composition - and I read a lot of books and sang a lot of love songs. "I was determined, I didn't think of giving up. I take things as a challenge in life, and when things got tough that inspired me a lot. It takes a lot of hard work - lyrics, melody and everything." Gregory launched a new CD box set to commemorate his years in the industry during an evening that included a speech from acting High Commissioner Mrs Sharon Saunders. Music and rum punch continued throughout the evening along with music from the new box set. Use the audio link above to hear our Gregory Isaacs interview in full.
