It's only in its second year but already the festival has shown that putting local arts in the spotlight has been on the cards for some time. The team of dedicated organisers has been delighted with the amount of people wanting to get involved.

"It's all part of the plan really of making Reading the cultural playground of the South."
Kevin Harrington

"We've run out of venues putting on events" exclaims one of the organisers Kevin Harrington, "we know we're taking it to the limit which is great fun.

He adds: "Last year there were sell-out events at the Reading Fringe and this year there will be as well. We've broadened the scope so I think there is genuinely something for everyone.

The result is a long list of exciting events from comedy and music to song-writing competitions and a short film festival.

The highlight on everyone's list is the Reading Homecoming Festival on Wednesday 23 August, which has Morning Runner headlining along with other local success stories such as Pure Reason Revolution, My Luminaries and The Race.

The organisers have been inundated with so many event ideas that hip hop sensation Shorty has a slot just outside the Fringe Festival week at PlugnPlay on Thursday 17 August, though it has since been renamed as the Reading Fringe launch party.

The festival has also attracted the interest of Popworld, which is staging a Reading fringe event at South Street on Saturday 19 August.

sam perry is obviously not connected to the band whatsoever!

I hear that Three Litre are playing that Screwball Cabaret thing on the 17th. One of Reading's best but underrated bands - a great way to start the fringe so well done to the organisers for dragging them out of their semi-retirement!
