Okay you can stop believing now. Jamie Delgado is out of the men's singles tournament. Final set results: 6-3 3-6 6-2 6-3 Maybe next year... 4:40pm See, we told you to keep believing! Jamie Delgado's come roaring back to take the second set 6-3 against Sebastien Grosjean, levelling the match at one set each. This would be an incredible upset if Delgado can somehow conjure up a victory here. He's already outplayed Mr Henman in this competition at any rate. Meanwhile in the doubles Josh Goodall is fighting to stay in the competition - he and Ross Hutchins have lost the first two sets of their tie but it's 6-6 in the third. 3:45pm Bad news, folks - Jamie Delgado's match against Sebastien Grosjean is going very much the way we feared. He's three games to love down in the first set, so victory for Grosjean is by no means certain but it's looking bleak. Josh Goodall and Ross Hutchins are a set down in the doubles too, trailing 4-3 in the second set. BBC Berkshire Wimbledon Watch could very soon be over for another year... 8:15am Good morning and welcome back for another day's boundless optimism. Our only remaining Berkshire representative is Jamie Delgado, and he's facing no. 15 seed Sebastien Grosjean on Court 13 this afternoon. His match is scheduled to be third on court for the day so expect some action around 2pm to 3pm. Elsewhere not everyone from Berkshire has gone home! Josh Goodall might be out of the men's singles but he's paired up with fellow Brit Ross Hutchins in the doubles. They're regular doubles partners, ranked 5th and 9th in Britain respectively, and they're in action against Christophe Rochus and Stanislas Wawrinka today. Finally, a word from esteemed BBC Berkshire colleague Linda Serck: "Jamie Delgado looks like an evil warlock". Does he? If he were an evil warlock, would this give him a better chance against Grosjean? Can he outdo Henman and at least win a set? Use the 'Have Your Say' form below to let us know. Your next update once Delgado's out on court. WEDNESDAY - 5:00pm Ah well. Josh Goodall disappears off our radar for another year, falling to his Dutch opponent 6-4 7-5 7-5. He started brightly with two aces in the opening game and battled hard for all three sets, but it wasn't enough for the 20 year old to topple Melle Van Gemerden, who now goes on to face Mardy Fish. All of which leaves Jamie Delgado as Berkshire's sole representative in the second round of this year's Wimbledon. As predicted he'll be facing Sebastien Grosjean, who dumped fellow Frenchman Gilles Simon out of the competition with relative ease earlier today. 11:00am Catch up on yesterday's Berkshire action at Wimbledon below - today it's Josh Goodall's turn. He's first up on Court 17 at noon today against the distinctly unfancied Dutch player Melle van Gemerden. That should give him plenty of time to wrap up a convincing victory (come on, positive thinking...) before Tim Henman takes on the might of Roger Federer. Those two are scheduled to be last on Centre Court today. Meanwhile Jamie Delgado will find out who he faces in the second round today. It'll be one of two Frenchmen - either Gilles Simon or, far more likely, Sebastien Grosjean, seeded 15. They follow Josh Goodall on Court 17. 10:00am The big news is of course Jamie Delgado's progress. He defeated the German Michael Berrer 6-4 6-2 3-6 3-6 6-3, and let me tell you it was a nervy encounter for those of us watching it on the BBC interactive multi-screen without any commentary. Delgado got off to a flying start but seemed to grind to a halt the moment the second set ended. Anyone who's flown the flag for Tiger Tim and co in front of a television set before will know exactly how the ensuing sets felt. Happily Andy Murray made short work of Nicolas Massu on Centre Court, allowing the massed British support to filter out early and lend Delgado a few cheers. He responded too, picking up his ideas for a determined final set. Alex Bogdanovic was nothing if not determined but the odds were always stacked against him, facing an opponent as classy as Rafael Nadal in the opening round. Some pundits speculated beforehand that Nadal was not a natural grass-court player, but there's still no doubting the Spaniard's ability. Even so, the number two seed was pushed extremely hard by Bogdanovic, who can feel proud of his day's work. It may have been a straight sets victory - 6-4 7-6 6-4 - but look at the number of games Bogdanovic won in those sets and you can see he put up a real fight. |
