There are two stages - a main stage and an acoustic stage in the Souk bar downstairs.

Pure Reason Revolution, signed to Sony, have their first full-length debut out called The Dark Third and are playing V Festival this year. Fronted by 'modern Mozart' Jon Courtney, the five-piece are playing both the main stage and acoustic stage.

They don't like the prog tag, preferring space rock or 'journey music' and play intricate harmonious compositions that aren't just uplifting but positively celestial.

Morning Runner
Morning Runner

Morning Runner are also playing V Festival, and Guilfest, they're signed to Parlophone and started out playing at the 3Bs bar in Reading town hall (under a different name). They've come a long way since then, supporting Coldplay last year and recently appearing on the album chart show on Channel 4 as well.

They're the thinking music-lovers' indie band. Their new singles are coming thick and fast so with such a hard-working band, it's a pleasure to see them play back in their home-town.

The Race
The Race

The Race have just finished recording their debut album at Oxford's famous Courtyard Studios (Radiohead, Supergrass). They've also just finished touring with another big Reading band The Cooper Temple Clause.

Described as "amazing" by NME new bands editor James Jam, this is an indie band who inject riotous moods and spine-tingling melodies, as well as the odd glockenspiel, into their wonderful sound.

My Luminaries
My Luminaries

My Luminaries have just signed to V2, in fact the ink is still wet. This is a band who also started the hard graft in Reading's smaller venues but as they say, cream always rises to the top, and now they're on the same label as Paul Weller, Mercury Rev and The Datsuns.

They're described by the NME as the Arcade Fire had they gone to a wedding rather than a funeral and they have a new single The Outsider coming out soon.

Other bands who are playing are Broken Jack - a Reading University band who need to find a new continent with which to inhabit their loud blustering rock riffs. They're opening the main stage.

On the acoustic stage you can enjoy the keyboard-driven edgy tunes from The Colours. Sharing that stage is The Sand Creek Massacre, who will fill the room with pounding desolate rock, and Rebus, who are playing DJ for the night to spin some top tunes.
