A Pangbourne statue, and maybe a ghost too...
A trick of the light, or a ghostly glow?

Wrestling wraiths in Reading with the Ghost Medics

"I'm Paul Devlin, the founder of Ghost Medics. Ghosts or spirits are former humans so they're everywhere. I know that sounds crazy, but in my experience it's fact."

For Paul Devlin and his team, busting doesn't just make them feel good: it's a public service they perform.

Paul, Martin Parr and Kerry Jones are Ghost Medics, and it's they're job to work out what's going on when something paranormal seems to be happening in Berkshire.

"You'll always get people who do not believe until they have an experience - then, you have no choice."
Paul Devlin

Paul told us what their job involves.

"I'm in charge of finding where ghosts are, then researching the location to find out why it has problems.

"Martin takes the photos and helps set up the equipment, and Kerry is our medium.

"As far as I'm concerned she's one of the best in the business. She gets information from the spirit world itself."

We caught up with Paul before an expedition to the Roebuck Hotel by the Thames, supposedly haunted by an old admiral who spends the afterlife moving furniture and knocking on walls.

But the Roebuck pales in comparison with Paul's favourite haunt - Tilehurst rail station.

"Tilehurst station has had three suicides that I'm aware of.

Is that an 'orb' above Paul at the top left?

"The best known is a Swiss girl who jumped to her death and, at the time and week of her death, her ghost re-enacts this.

"I've witnessed this and have the photos to help prove it.

"There is also an old station-master who is said to walk the platforms at night."

Paul and his team might be out to catch ghosts, but he admits some things remain beyond their grasp.

"Nobody really knows what ghosts are made from - but they do give off an electric signal."

Convincing others that those signals are a sign of paranormal activity can be tricky, though.

"I can't make people believe what I know is fact.

"You'll always get people who do not believe until they have an experience - then, you have no choice."

Haha, only one orb *rolls eyes*. I have a picture of my school gymnasium (which was once a jail block) with 30+ orbs, big and small.I am a true believer of the paranormal sorts. Many experiences are under my belt.

Garry Pietras
I too have experienced paranormal phenomena and have don extensive research in my home town. For all you non believers out there, if you look for the spiritual in the right places trust me you will find it.

"I know that sounds crazy, but in my experience it's fact." But where does devillish Devlin get those facts from - the back of a cereal packet? Or an overheard conversation in a taxi?

cherrell
How do you know that that isn't just a reflection in the light?

I too have witnessed many a strange sight at Tilehurst station, usually drunks under the influence staggering off the train. Where is Ray Parker Junior when you need him?

Local Tilehurst Resident
I live very close to Tilehurst Station and a few times the loft door in the house has opened in the middle of the night at 4am - for no reason at all!

A.Jones (no really!)
I have seen a strange 'image' at Tilehurst Train Station at about 2am after missing the last train to Oxford. It was some years ago now but I believe I saw a man walking down the tracks Roebuck side) toward the station, he was wearing a long robe and carrying a bag or case of somesort.

Andy Smooth
I hate using Tilehurst station because its so spooky. I'm glad I'm not alone!
