Hello! Good Site! Thanks you! lglvrjungd

Ted
Since when has 'BBC Berkshire' only been confined to the borders of Reading? Reading is not the only place with decent bands.

Frapple
If you go to Twice Upon a Time's Myspace page you'll notice that they aren't playing a single other gig or anything.. noone cares that they won and that they announced their break up a while ago. Definately deserved winners... pscht.

OI!
The Race are fantastic and I will not hear a word against them! The other bands suck, but at least he got it right with the race.

alan mcgees wimple
unsigned band competition, the race, album out sept on shifty disco (which i believe to be a record label??), so not unsigned then!! maybe they could have given it to one of the other "unsigned bands" like i dunno my luminaries oh wait v2 records signed them didn't they?? are pure reason playing reading?? if only they'd thought of entering someone needs to give those poor unsigned guys a chance!! oh man the boundaries of signed and unsigned are blurring ....... i have the fear!!

A
I totally agree with 'What?' - get over yourselves, get a life and save the 'angry from Tunbridge Wells' stuff for something else. The decision's been made, so live with it and get on with your lives. Every time there's been a competition like this, everyone gets themselves in a right old lather. It happened years ago when Reading Borough Council ran a similar competition, people screaming about how 'unfair' it all was. Get over it!!!!

Jonny
Ha! check out the furze webite (thefurze.net) they have a video news program, realy good! even though this band did not win, they have gained new fans from this comp. me being one of them! thanks for entering otherwise I might not of heard of you.

tyler
nothing hides the fact that the 3 bands that went through are utter crap

Stem (dk)
congrats to those who got through, hope it all goes well. x

OldGregg
Me again "if I ever see him again it'll be too soon is a pharse" you fool and class is not necessarly based on wealth it's attitude!!! Obviously money can't buy intelligence on your part, or talent!

Buzz of Jack (AKA Marcus W)
you know how we do chris, T.U.A.T. rock and roll

Grow up you sad moaning MUPPETS!
Personally, I find the porspect of Twice Upon A Time playing ANY gig let alone the festival, about as appetising as cold porridge. BUT IT'S OVER NOW! No amount of moaning is going to change things. So why don't you miserable wretches just calm down and get over yourselves? PS I love you Linda

What?
Since when have you heard of a competition whereby the people (BBC) involved had to notify those that didn't win!? Just stop whingeing and just get on and congratulate the bands who won, and those that organised the competition so that bands from Berkshire would have three chances of playing at Reading! I can only presume those whining are involved with bands that didn't get through...just shut up, please!! It's so boring.

christmas
i think we can safely say that although quite amusing this message board has proved less than useless as the decision is incredibly dissappointing. atleast knowone will be there to see them. what a waste of 3 slots!!!! utter rubbish

old gregg's a wa*k*
dude, there's only one rich junglist and thats me! if u hated the drummer that much you surely wouldnt see him again "soon". get your facts right next time. prejudice sucks. you suck. and we'd definately make the most of the opportunity if we'd been given it. fact is, were not a one man show, and thats what reading needed. so long you big douche bag. xxxxxxxxxx

Mooo
Ok, 3 generic bands chosen. no risks. no quality. no talent and most importantly no originality! Instead we get 'slightly dancy band/dj', indie drivel and skater/emo nonsense!!! Thanks Neil.... The Furze, Through Snowy Static and My Luminaries would have been the peoples choice I feel!

Matt
why is everyone beeing so harsh on the winners, they wouldnt have been picked if they wernt good enough!? in my opinion really good picks, i think alot of the bands were good and must have been a hrd decision so congats to all the bands!

Could do better BBC
Can I just pass on my congrats to bands who won and also say well done for getting to the final to the others. I would also like to take this opportunity to ask the organisers of this competition why they did not have the courtesy to contact the unlucky bands on the same day as they contacted the winners. Surely they must have known that people talk and that those who had not won through would find out, as many of them did, via the various band and music websites available on the internet. Shoddy work BBC, try harder next time.

OldGregg
Can't say I would have chosen the 3 bands but such is life and I hope they have a great time and good luck to them all on the day - try and make it down to see ur sets guys! At least The Junglists didn't win - bunch of middle class school boys! The drummer is the most arrogant human being I have ever met if I ever meet him again it'll be too soon, and he's not even very good!!

pig jones
awful awful decisions. what was he playing at!?

hey
twice upon a time are quality? At what? Mr Fogg - truly forgettable music. beeps and a few beats can't disguise someone singing out of tune.

Anne
wow, congrats to The Race - I knew you could do it :)

Jemms
Really looking forward to seeing The Race... This year the Carling Stage, next year the Main Stage!

cowz
boooooooooooooooooooooooo! that decision is terrible.

MM
Well done Soose and Linda for giving unsigned Reading bands a chance to play their hometown festival.XX

James
great jobs on the picks! hadnt heard much of mr fogg but very impressed, cant wait for each day!

Emma
thts rubbish u should hav picked the junglists!!!!!!!!!!

chris - tuat
woaaahhhh!fair enough we're not going to please everyone, but we never said we would definately quit!this whole competition has made me think very hard about giving up on the work we've put into this band, and hope to use this opportunity to lead us in the right direction again. hope this maybe clears things up. sorry for not doing so earlier!

Buzz Off Jack
Twice Upon a Time are quality, maybe ur a jealous member of a snubbed band, just be happy for someone else, they've put loads of effort into the Reading scene over the past 3 years, they've deserved it. get over it

IMOGEN
Brilliant, the best festival in the world just got even better!

really jack?
If that is true it goes to show how pathetic this competition has been. The Race were always going to get it as they are well connected. At least they have a half decent sound. the other 2 are a joke!

Leroy Abbott
Well done to all bands but i still think that there should be one tent dedicated to bands from Reading. One day for each genre etc.

Emily
ALl of those picks are awsome!! couldnt have asked for better!

Disappointed
What a shame the READING FESTIVAL won't be waking up to the amazing "Sorry Dave" by the Junglists on Saturday morning....

Marian
The Junglists!!!!! They kick ass!

emma
through snowy static! i love them!

MORGANA
The Furze are easily the most talented band on the planet right now. Pick 'em.

Adam
The Junglists were great at Gazs Rock and Blues Club - went down a storm - would be perfect for Reading

Jack
Well done Neil Pengelly for picking twice upon a time... not only are they the most unimagintive, bland and generic band on that entire list... they are breaking up after the festival. What a waste of a slot. This could have been given to a band that will actually get somewhere.

laura
the junglists are the best by miles!

Gemma
I've just seen Claudia Schiffer (she's not looking here best), Catherine Tate, Dr Who and the girl from Eastenders plugging THE FURZE on their website!! Check it out www.thefurze.net

Reply to "Justice?"
Has it ever occurred to you that they might have to check that the shorlisted bands are still able to play that weekend? No, I didn't think so....

TimBob
The Furze are the best band in the UK right now BAR NONE.

pan li
The Junglists ....think im lost

Steven Cotterell
Hi, im from reading, il be at the festival all weekend, and i can garentee the junglists will put on a good show, ive seen them plenty of times, in reading, aswell as at camden, they never disapoint. looking forward to adequate seven, lightyear, captain everything, mumrah, (real nice underdog bands on the lockup stage). p.s. some other bands id love to see on the reading festival lineup would be sonic boom six, catch it kebabs, smoke like a fish, as they are all reliable bands for a good show

dp
The Junglists are amazing!!!

Graham
Everybody, it has to be the JUNGLISTS, I saw them in london a couple of months back and I'm dying to see them again, I introduced the music to all my mates and they love it!! see the light guys... cmon

Tellie
The junglists are absolubtly awesome :) invite them to play, having heard them live, trust me they'll be amazing! xXx

jett
the junglists should win! they're the most original + exciting!

the duchess of dude
notice the name? yes that's right i'm from steeplejack parade. only the band you SCORNED. how do you sleep at night? i can think of now plausible reason as to this atrocity. we were clearly the best band that entered, and i haven't even heard the rest of this so called 'musicians'. oh you'll pay, don't think you won't pay.

curlywurly macintosh
huh, well, someones obviously made a mistake! How did Steeplejack Parade not make it?!!!

Em
The Junglists all the way! Great live, and have a really fresh sound!

Starcia
The Junglists are an amazing band. They have a unique sound, that combines a few well listened to generes and they execute this sound well. They are exellent live performers and know how to get a crowd going! I live in the states, but had the pleasure of seeing them perform when I visite the UK, and it was an amazing adventure.

Harry
The Junglists should deffinately get through, not only are they an amazing band, but they pretty much represent the meaning of music in berkshire! i mean a band with so much experience under their belt could deliver nothing but an immense show!

james may
yesterday twice upon a time were on the reading poster! now they took the whole carling stage down! HAVE THEY WON A PLACE AND IT WAS REVEALED TOO EARLY!? SURELY THEY MUST HAVE WON! THEY'RE BRILLIANT!

The Daleks
Wire Jesus spotted on the stage... EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE!

The Flanders Pigeon Murderer
Seriously, where's the toilet?

Out For Blood
Whats the point announcing it "live on radio" when all the bands that have been picked have already been told... and are running their mouths about it? And to be completly honest the bands that i know have been picked, are weak wattered down and are the kind of bands that are giving berkshire a bad name! Well done BBC and a big round of applause to Mean Fiddler for ruining what used to be a good festival!

kinga
through snowy staticcccccc

minger
through snowy static to play!

babes
if twice upon a time are playing, then the whole competition is a joke. how did they get to play?!

REAL MUSIC
Basically the judge(s) will probably just pick a bunch of crappy Indie bands, who's only purpose for playing the sludge they call music is because they dont hold the ability or capacity to create anything else. All you Indie bands, especially the ones with "The" in their name, should die. thankyou

the king
if its good enough for the dr, its good enough for me.......The furze rock! nuff said.

Ereeca
What no Beat6 ? Perhaps they're too good.

Chris
Give The Jones Radio the break they deserve...they have worked so hard

Justice?
I have heard a rumour that The Race have been informed that they are one of the bands through in the festival competition. If this is true then that is truely shoddy. Surely a competition of this importance to all involved should be communicated in a fair and open way?

DJ CRAYFISH
The Common Moral Cause were great as a six-piece when I saw them and the full 10-piece experience would be awesome. And probably the only band with a brass section out of this lot. As "David" put it: "Please don't pick a boring indy band!" Maybe the Junglists as well - I haven't seen them yet, but the comments here have whetted my appetite. Ska? With a violin?

when the heck
are we actually going to find out who has won this thing?

C bizzle
TWICE UPON A TIME ALL THE WAY!! we dont need another 'the' band.

Nikos Ramone
Twice Upon A Time and Malefice for SURE. Stem are a bigger waste of space than thier guitarists teeth.

Chris Howard
Hahaha! didn't take long for the 'regulars' to take control and advertise their band to the pepsi-max. I'm a solo artist so things are tougher: so feel free to download ALL my music for free from: www.lankymusic.co.uk/album.htm or head to www.myspace.com/lankymusic for a more interactive experience! Chris

mark
I can not believe that "whatis:protocol" are not through!

Kate
I think the shake are wicked!!!! They definitely deserve to get through coz they work so hard at what they do!

Please
salvage

Gooner Jim
C'mon The Furze!

it has to be
salvage and the race

Me
I've not really been big on the local scene for a while so have only seen a few of these bands live. After listening to the music of all the bands I could find I'd say that without a doubt the most talented is Mr Fogg. Amazing stuff, he really should be huge. Next band I'd choose to play would be Wire Jesus, totally unique and would be perfect for Reading. The final band I'd choose would be The Common Moral Cause. Talented bunch! And actually I know people in 3 of the bands, and I've chosen none of them.

Kirstyyy

Undisclosed
Syrus ... I saw them the other week... Awful singer... has one tone... lead guitar .. alright but not the business. bass player is bit part.. drummer can drum. All in all . average jo band

Ben
The best band ha, you don't even have the best band in berkshire up here, they're from slough and they're called confuzin jack, and i've seen them ha !! wow they're the most original, energetic, tight band i've ever seen in my life, you should get those guys up, they'll show you how to rock, ha !! you can check them out at myspace.com/confuzinjack not only are they the best band in berkshire they're the best band in the whole world, now oput that in your pipe and smoke it, AWESOME !!!

Vince
Snowy Static must have got this in the bag, the melodies are so much more memorable than any of the other bands. The end of Tha's What I'm Like would make for a wicked Carling stage singalong.

lee TTWM
Has to be My Luminaries, The Race and Wire Jesus. has to be. thats all i shall say.

wayfarer
C'mon choose The Furze! A solid, reliable rock band; fresh, new, exciting

Nathan
The Common Moral Cause headlined the Urban Action Festival in Slough last weekend, and they took the roof off. If ever a band was ready for Reading it's them.

Billy
Come on guys, you must choose The Furze. I saw them quite recently and they rock! These guys must do the opener at Reading and deserve it after all the effort they have put in. They have celebrities talking about them on the net - www.thefurze.net/multimedia. Great stuff!!

Martin O'Brien
The FURZE are the hottest new band you are likely to see this year. So much energy, enthusiasim and talent really leaves an impression... you can catch them on podcasts, and @ www.thefurze.net

richard
well the only truly amazing band in this list is through snowy static, so no question...

Roger
Has to be the Furze since the regroup after Kid G they have never sounded better. Local festival, local band, mental.......

ls
SHAKE shimmy shimmy x

Dan
Gotta be the furze :)

Stefanie
THE FURZE are the funkiest, grooviest, most energetic and charismatic local band I have seen in years. Their unique sound and catchy style converts even the toughest sceptic, gets people of any age moving on the spot. If anyone deserves to open the festival, it will be a fantastic opener to a great weekend.

Gus Robertson
Welcome to the Junglists! Let the Junglists welcome you to Reading...

mike b
without a doubt the furze, listen to the people!!!!!!, furze virgins check out they're website!!!! www.thefurze.net!!! Furze Furze Furze Furze Furze Furze Furze HEAR ME!!!

Jay
I agree with someones post on here that we should push for a Carling Weekend Unsigned tent, that's a brilliant idea. But in this competition, I think it should be Through Snowy Static, Dan Lomas has so much talent, Malefice, although they wouldn't be suited to the Carling stage, they're a great band, and Twice Upon A Time, they've always been one of my favourite local bands and it's sad to see them go. They played in the Nokia open mic tent last year, and I think playing the Carling stage is a perfect final show for them.

Keefe (stem.)
hey hey y'all i realise we're not the most well-known Reading band so if any of you lot fancy checking out our stuff it can be found at... www.myspace.com/thatbandstem peace x

C7
Yah, The Furze!!! They play great lively music which would set the opening tone for Reading Festival to surely make it one of the very best festivals they've ever had!!!

scott
man best live band I've ever seen and heard, the sound is loud and new and I love those jackets

dan_h
it's gotta be the Furze. I know of loads and loads of new bands, but the Furze have to be the hardest working band I've ever known. It shows in their quality tunes, and because of these reasons they deserve big things. Give them the slot.

1 love
Salvage

Davey G
Bring on The Furze! The are by far the best band that I have seen for a long time

Michaela, Cardiff
The Furze have to open Reading. They are amazing live, get the crowds going and will go a long long way.... Check out website www.thefurze.net, great download available. Eagerly awaiting new single. Good luck guys!

Bob Frisky
The Furze for sure definately the best band out of the bunch by a long way!!!!!

Ask and I might tell you
Its gotta be The Furze without a shadow of a doubt. They are the UKs next big thing!!!

The Wing Commander
Charly Foxtrot Tango Alpha, I have the stage in sight now and I see it is the Furze opening, over.

michelle
Get The Furze in there - they are ON FIRE!!!. Too good to miss.

michelle
Get The Furzr in there - they are ON FIRE!!!. Too good to miss.

Furze Reporter
An undeniably great live act; consisting of incredibly talented musicians. The repetoire, skullduggery and banter that the band creates for an atmosphere is well worth the action, and the song writing isn't too bad either: Furze to win all three slots!!

Zoe
Ive seen through snowy static live and they are awweeesome x good luck guys x

GD30 Furze fan
I noticed that Barwick has mentioned the site: http://www.thefurze.net/ Here's the link for the site so you can get the free song download. I also noticed that Dr Who is on the multimedia page. Wierd, but typically Furze

Damien Bidmead
The Furze MUST open Reading. I've seen them on a few occasions and it's a crime that they aren't one of the biggest bands in the UK. The Furze!!!

Mike
The Junglists for Reading, the most original & talented young band around!

Fashcloth
The Furze - no doubt - the best live act!

Cristina Ruales

through snowy static, daniel lomas has the voice of an absolute angel.

Si The Pie
What happened to "What is: Protocol"?? STEM ARE THROUGH, AND MUST PLAY THE FEST!!!Boo Malefice...!!!

mod_01
the shake's new ep is wicked - can't wait to see them live - hopefully at the festival!!

Mark
i say sod the competition. People of Reading should be pushing for an unsigned tent. This would surely benefit the Reading music scene.

Just Me
Has anyone else noticed that Malefice are the only metal act in there?! hmmmm... shud be playing me thinks yea yea

Amy
Well...if I were picking the three bands from those shortlisted they would have to be: Salvage, The Race and Malefice...

Rabbii T
What's all this about 'Male Face'?

J
Common Moral Cause all the way - so original - love it!

Ben
Apparently Snowy Static have got major labels all over them now, that's the power of the BBC! I'd have them opening the Friday, the Junglists on the Saturday and TUAT doing the Sunday (it'd be their last ever show apparently, nice way to bow out).

daviddd
TWICE UPON A TIME!!!!!!!!!!

Danny
Twice Upon A Time! For sure, they're probably one of the best bands around!! Such an awesome style of music, and amazing songs.

wahey
ALLOW TWICE UPON A TIME

The Parade
Dan, you are very mistaken mate - we played with The Shake last night in Bedford and they were ****ing top, - best unsigned band I've seen for years and their new stuff is ace!!

Robert
THROUGH SNOWY STATIC!

ieuan
malefice malefice malefice malefice malefice malefice malefice malefice malefice malefice malefice malefice malefice malefice malefice malefice malefice malefice. theres already enough boring music at reading this year. put malefice on.

Shaun
I know most all of them and who ever wins is deservedly so.

P
Ah, so much fun reading these comments. You gotta love bands mate's posting for them! At the end of the day, these are 16 bands that 3 blokes liked and thought deserve this chance. It's now down to the taste/choice of one guy. He'll either pick who he likes or who he thinks will fit best on his bill and could be a "safe" choice or something unexpected. Whoever gets the slots, good luck, I know I'll pop down to see whoever wins - if I can crawl out of my tent in time.

Jordon
Heard some tracks from the COMMON MORAL CAUSE trust me there your band

The Way Forward.....
Pick THE SHAKE - seriously good music, seriously good-looking band. Slick. *Amazing* vocals. Funky bass. Gorgeous guitar. s**t hot drums. Do I really need to go on??

Aidan
Stem. Theres a full stop you know. They's way awesome though, this one time I was like 'hey, you know what, stem. are awesome' and all my friends was like 'yeah mans you right' and we all had pizza and talked about how stem. was well good. Mmmm, stem.y goodness. DAE IT.

Robin Hood
PLEASE people. I am getting a headache from all the bickering. Just accept that Salvage and the race are MILES better than anything else...

E
Through Snowy Static are absoloutley AMAZING! i wish them THE BEST OF LUCK! because they really deserve it!

they're the best
through snowy static are amazing and the most original out of all the bands. if they don't get picked then somethings wrong!

Aidan
My choices would be: Through snowy static - Although absolutely incapable of starting things with a bang, could well be a safe bet for "i gave them a break". High praise from the judges will surely sway the Mean fiddlers decision? The Junglists - Would be less daunted by the prospect i think due to Mystery Jet support. Would be nice for them as a big two fingers up to Newburys local music scene which they pretty much kept alive (along with a handfull of other bands) yet still moans. Superb songs but can their orchestra sound good at a festival? The Shake - Ok, yes maybe being from newbury im biased, but i reckon they would open well. They at times lack stage prescence but are a breath of fresh air, pilaging from a part of a decade rock ignores at the moment. Straight from a 60's time machine.

Dan
The Junglist will make the sun shine in Reading!!! I am very dissapointed with The Shake's new tracks, they are very weak, and the singer voice is well... shaky. I heard they are not great live either.

randommm
all you people asking for your friends bands to play are idiots. i doubt you've even listened to all the bands on the list. why not have a listen and put your bias aside. you dont get to decide anyway.

Bazza
Reading Scene Lover - you got it right mate! That would be the best combination! Salvage, Race and My Luminaries...

Hannah Brundrett
I think you should definately choose the Common Moral Cause as one of the top three to open reading festival. I thinki they are amazing, and well worth it to get the crowd warmed up for the other acts. Please please pick them!!

Anna
The common moral cause are on my top list for bands to see!

Jones
THE JONES RADIO http://www.myspace.com/thejonesradio

TWICE UPON A TIME!!! all the way for sure. would be great for the fans, and they have something for the whole crowd, totally ace :)

COMMON MORAL CAUSE, they are absolutely awesome live!

Shaun Doyle
I love the Common Moral Cause!! Thank God that the right people are starting to realise true talent....I send my full support to the band and encourage all to listen to their music!

Optimus Rhyme
Common Moral Cause all the way baby! Fresh, original and lively they would get Reading on their feet and in the spirit of the festival in no time.

TWICE UPON A TIME and MALEFICE! www.myspace.com/twiceuponatime www.myspace.com/malefice

Linda
It has to be the Junglists. SAVE THE JUNGLIST!

Geoff
The Common Moral Cause are a natural for the Reading Festival as they offer something different, being a 10 piece band with a great sound.

johngrat
I say the common moral cause. Wonderful band

casey
TWICE UPON A TIME MATES ! x

Dave G.
The Common Moral Cause - hands down! Having seen/worked with them, I can honestly say they are probably the tightest and most polished performers on the list. Good luck guys!!!

Thom
Common Moral Cause all the way; these guys are fantastic!

Justification
All I can say is thank the lord above that so many of the very poor reading bands DIDN'T make it on that list, that we have to read about all year from the likes of blah blah. there's some awesome talent in that list, we should be hearing more about them.

ReadingSceneLover
I'd have to say the race (for energy) salvage (for talent and songs) my luminaries (for getting signed) the others are pretty average really. we need to put on bands that actually sound like they could get to a bigger level and stage

Sally
The Common Moral Cause should play. They get everyone up and moving no matter what music genre you're into and would be brilliant to get the party started!

Peter McKenzie
The Common Moral Cause!! It would be great to see them at the festival!!!!!!

Peter McKenzie
The Common Moral Cause!! It would be great to see them at the festival!!!!!!

the common moral cause!

Reply to Pete Price, Hi Pete, thanks for your continual kind words and support, we'll have to do another interview soon.

Colin
The Jones Radio , great stuff, we want them at the festival :)

Clare
The common moral cause! what an excellent band gotta be at reading!!

Louise
the common moral cause are a breath of fresh air- soul, funk, hiphop- they are a wicked mix u cant miss them live!

Stubdoo
THE SHAKE! It has to be these guys (and girl). They are extremely slick, have some awesome tunes and even The Racontuers are nicking their intros they are so good. We've been to loads of their gigs and they'll rock Reading. Give them their big break

The Flanders Pigeon Murderer
TCMC aren't THAT good. Much as I like them, EVERY local scene has a TCMC and/or Malefice. Although anyone who's willing to rap in their OWN accent instead of pretending they're from the US deserves some credit

Rachel
THE SHAKE all the way!! They are great musicians and Faye has an amazing voice - so GOOD LUCK!!

Norris McSquirter
calm down, chesington! they obviously meant 25th of june. 2 letters wrong - get over it.

Big Ad. Gruff
stick the common moral clause on - they are awesome! a truely individual sound in this day of pretty bog standard rock songs. Would be awesome to here them open any of the days!

not important
through snowy static, twice upon a time and the junglists, nice combination from the three well defined bands

Fuzzy Bear
STEM ALL The Way!!! Malefice Suck!

Matt
Twice Upon A Time for sure, they sound the most professinal sounding young band that ive heard in a long time

The Common Moral Cause is greater than all! Definatly deserve to play Reading!

Jase
gotta be the shake! im actually in love with the singer.. she has a great voice and their music is incredibly catchy!x

frances..
Stem. Obviously.

Fan
Are you also going to show other band logos. It seems unfair to them all just to keep showing the one.

Some random
Reading these comments, I'm beginning to wonder how many of these people have a) heard the shortlisted bands and b) been to the Carling Stage for the first band before. It's a great opportunity but "big stage" and "large crowd"? Unlikely. Good luck to all involved, especially from Staunton down there who must be on another planet if he thinks The Race, My Luminaries, etc are "pub bands". GOOD ONE.

Reading
The Jones Radio for sure. They are all local Reading boys so who better.

beth
THE JUNGLISTS WWWWWWWWWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pete
IT'S GOT TO BE 'THE COMMON MORAL CAUSE' GIVE THEM THE EXPOSURE THEY DISERVE - THAY NEVER DISAPOINT LIVE!!!!!!!!

De-Mented
Seen em, went deaf to em, Loved em, gotta be Malefice. These guys are GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD, nuff said, book em and make Reading THE place to be.........

vince
common moral cause definetly

pete price
the common moral cause are a cut above most of the bands on that shortlist and would bring a real breath of fresh air to the festival - I've seen them play a couple of times and had to write a review for the magazine I work for after one show - their eclectic and diverse sound should not count against them as they KNOW how to smash it live...

Chesington
How was "Sunday 25th of July the final judgement day" when it hasnt even come to pass, and the 25th of July is a tuesday? lame. anyhow, my selection would be 1. Malefice 2. Salvage and not sure about 3, maybe the Race. Cheers, and sort out your dates

F1LT3R
The Common Moral Cause! Make them play!

Rob
The Common Moral Cause for definate. It will add some artistic taste to the festival. which is what it needs. and theres a difference between 50 cent and TCMC. listen to it before you judge.

Art Tatum
I saw the CMC in the mean fiddler a while ago, they were awesome

Rob g
What's the Rock fuss? C'mon Reading hasn't been exclusivley rock for years, in fact the best set I can remeber seeing there is the Prodigy about 10 years ago - and I'm sure they're a dance band. The Red Hot Chili Peppers were awsome there also, and I'm sure they're Funk? The whole point of going to a festival is to enjoy the music and to experience new acts and music - that's what i think anyway

The Duck
Put the common moral cause on!

talker stalker menorica
the best reading band from that list is salvage and they are the most deserving of playing at the festival. i mean, listen to searchlights - it's got to be played at the festival

Huw
Should be Salvage. no doubts.

Rebecca
THE MIGHTY SALVAGE ARE ONE OF THE BEST ROCK BANDS IN THE COUNTRY LET ALONE READING

Dellon
Quite simply, has to be SALVAGE. Amazing songs, amazing band- they will do Reading and the world proud.

ali
TheJunglists!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2nd Chapter
Salvage! Salvage! Salvage! They are the only band that excites me from this list, and who have something 'fresh' and interesting going on...

Brian Davis Jnr
Why? Why bother with this competition? Salvage are clearly better than every other band on a music level...

Cursory glances
Linda - thanks for your comments. You are correct in that the only qulaification should be great local acts. Since the competition part is over, and it's out of you & sooses hands...who would you choose to win? Salvage, Wire Jesus, The Race, etc...?

rancid chuffer
Salvage are amazing. All you whingers about having 'proper' rock - check them out. Its a muse/foos/manics/brmc thing...

All good points
But salvage, the race and my luminaries are clearly much, much better bands with SONGS. They should be picked out.

Robbo
I'll have the Malefice, with a side order of Malefice. *and to drink* A Chateau Malefice '06.

mr L AD Brookes
prediction: The Race (fri), My Luminaries (sat), Malefice (sun)

The Junglists are perfect for such a wide audience as that which attends Reading Festival - you can't get more local, home-grown talent than them. THE JUNGLISTS ALL THE WAY.

Frederick
Gotta be the junglists, i love tom cullen!

Jade and Fran
Also the shake! Wicked band, guaranteed to make EVERYONE dance! haha x Fran: the drummer "Joost Hendrickx" is absolutely awesome. www.myspace.com/theshake or something like that.. search for them! absolutely quality! x

Jade and Fran
THE JUNGLISTS! we're very good friends with all of them and they're an excellent ska band. you will love them. watch out for: "sorry Dave, I cant let you do that" - wicked tune. Take care now! x

Nay Puddle
All about the Junglists mate, you know it. You love it.

Mike
The Junglists are one of THE best live bands I've seen, full stop. They have extraordinary energy and an amazing presence when hey play. Their music is the ultimate dancing music, and the violin gives an awesome edge to the songs. PLEASE PUT THIS BAND ON AT READING!!

Chloe
without a doubt the junglists!i met them at reading festival last year and i can imagine they'd be nothing but incredible if they played it themselves!absolutely fantastic music!

Charlotte
Junglists!

Tom
Indeed one does believe that there are numerous 'quality' musicians within this shortlist, but I do sincerely believe that 'The Junglists' are, by a considerable margin, the greatest band and/or performer (s) within the list. That is all. xxx

Jo
I love The Race!!

sharan
definatly the junglists! best band i have heard in a long time

Melly
please give it to The Junglists - they deserve it and their kind of musicality needs to be unleashed to the world.

Staunton
There's only a few bands on this list that could handle such a large stage etc, and Malefice is one of them, they are the only band that has played a fair share of BIG high profile shows, all the rest are pub bands

charles the first
Salvage are not signed (yet) Salvage are not indie. Salvage are rock! They MUST win.

Kat
Check out EXIT TO EDEN- www.myspace.com/exittoedenuk Your favourite Berkshire (ASCOT) Band. www.exittoeden.co.uk

Bex
Do we not think it'd be nice to return to the roots of Reading festival (ie dirty smelly RAWK) and have a local RAWK band on stage? Malefice have a huge following in Reading, from the fulltimers, those who reckon Reading rock all year. It'd be sweet to have the band play their home fest!! Get behind the malefice boys, they'll appreciate it the most.

Andy
Malefice!!! The crowd and energy they have is insane! DO it!

dans (terrorart)
MALEFICE all the way. lets get some HEAVY metal on this stage! the way sunday should be...

Andy P.
how many of these bands can garantee a good show in front of a big crowd? most of them only played the turtle or po na na...

Jonny
If Malefice fail to win this contest then basically music suffers tragically. This band deserve so much more than they have and due to the million other "scene" bands there are in the music world nowadays its gonna take something like this for them to make their mark! If they win this competition and open the main stage at Reading...Then my friends you will have something very special on your hands...No other band deserve to win this more than these guys! They are something pretty special!!

HAG!!
TRUST MALEFICE RULE!! THEY WILL BE THE BEST BAND TO PLAY!!!! trust

jonathan melville

Malefice well deserve the opening slot, they're from Reading and have had a hectic tour schedule this year. They are the best band I know from the region.

Paul
Can't decide! Malefice or common moral cause!! Both amazing bands in their fields!

Indea
O.K guys you have to choose Malefice, if they are good enough to make me like metal and im a hip hop girl then I think they deserve to play. They are absolutely awesome!!!!! Will get the crowd easily. Please pick them!!!

Danny Boy!
Malefice!!!!! metal's alrite ennit???!!!

Joker
malfice are a must see band. it would be a crime if they did not go through and win. they put on the m,ost brutal spectacular live show of any other uk metal band and are more then deserving of playing. MALEFICE FOR MAINSTAGE

Magic Mike
Malefice all the way baby. its all about metal on sundays you know!

reply to 'the fonz'

if malefice dont get through to open main stage atreading i will be quite disgusted. i dont know of a band thats worked harder and put as much effort into there craft as these guys. an awesome live act and an awesome bunch of guys who take professionalism to the next level.

Nick Metallion
Malefice are one of the best, most professional, and talented UK talents out there. I heard them over a year ago now, in a smokey dingy little pub. They were pretty good then, impressed me. Since then they've just got even better. I've had them on my line-ups a good few times, and they always impress the crowds. They also have great hair. Brilliant metal band, woah yeh!

Davz
MALEFICE! Without a doubt they should play reading! Reading festival needs more heavy bands rather than similar indie bands! Also malefice are from reading and them opening the main stage would mean alot to them! As well as the Reading population! Make them proud!

MegaGeoff
MALEFICE!!!

Lucy
MALEFICE ALL THE WAY, they will KICK out everyone else, showing how it's REALLY done. I think it would be awesome if this band were chosen because it shows DIVERSITY and that an OPEN MIND is important. It's not just a wall of noise anymore. COME ON MALEFICE!

Huw
its got to be malefice all the way, the totaly kicked arse at face last week, they are without a doubt the best local metal band. sick guitars, demon like vocals and drums that will blow your mind. they will put on the show of a life time.

YEH ROCK MALEFICE, Reading festival needs a true Reading band, and what better a way to start sunday the renound metal day than with these boys! ~MALEFICE for SUNDAY~

Myles Dyer
Malefice should of been at Download 2006, but werent! They so deserved it! Don't allow the same mistake to be made twice! And have them play Reading to add balance to the indie/metal scene in this years rock festival! MALEFICE!!! -Myles

Agent:Yade
I thinks Malefice should they are blimmin awesome!! :D x

moosey
out of that list? Salvage and my luminaries are the only bands worthy....

Reading massive
Holy moly!! MALEFICE have entered?!?!?!?! I would love to see them play it, the fresh sound of metal!!! Would definatly be a high point of the festy :)

Hannibal
Hip-Hop? I would have though Pengelly would have learnt his lesson when he booked 50 cent, who got bottled off the main stage in a chorus of boo's. Session ladies, I think it's great what you're doing, really! I just have to leave reminding you of one thing...R O C K bands....roooocck bands ladies.

Linda - The Session
Reply to messages about bands who have entered: The judges didn't pick A Beggar's Opera, Lazywall, Feud or 'The Pink Tractors'. Reply to message about all the judges being in their twenties: that's rubbish but Paul Lester, Uncut deputy editor, will love you for it as he must be in his 40s. Reply to messages dissing us including My Luminaries: Just because they've just signed to V2 doesn't mean they get bags of cash and their pick of the festivals. It's still an uphill struggle to get noticed by fans. The label isn't even releasing any of their singles this year.Plus for the most part they've been an unsigned Reading band so have just as much right to enter as any other band. AND FINALLY! A lot of bands who have entered are on tiny local labels. Are they still unsigned? Are they in fact 'signed'? Should they not enter either???? At the end of the day, this competition is all about putting Reading's creme de la creme of bands on that stage - something that hasn't happened for years. It's all about giving the Reading music scene the recognition it deserves. Stop being moaning minnies and recognise that this is a great opportunity for our town. Lindaxx

Ron
Has to be Wire Jesus, Common Moral Cause and My Luminaries in that order!

Neil
A round of applause to the session for putting all the decent bands on the last cd that went to the judges....pure genius!

Charlie
Where aer THROUGH SNOWY STATIC??

Chris
The Shake Rock!

Stansted massive
Umm...I feel I should point out at this juncture that THE SHAKE really are quality - an opinion not only held by Timmo, but indeed, the whole of Stansted...amd its airport. Let them play!!

alan mcgees wimple
in no particular order: the race wire jesus stem malefice (i think??)

Caf
The Shake were one of the ten acts shortlisted for the City Showcase Event at Goldsmiths in New Cross and were gob smackingly impressive. They were also very at home on a big stage. I've got my fingers crossed for them, I think they should have been playing Reading anyway! X

Some random
Wire Jesus Stem The Race Malefice

Matt
The Shake - go see them (3Bs in Reading on Sat 8th July), they're great!

jethro
the shake should win cos they are the epitome of a festival band. plus they're good.

Jono
When can we vote on the Beggar's boys? I was in the purple turtle last week and everyone was singing along to thier tunes...they'd work a festival crowd well and make Reading proud.

Sarah S
I saw 'A Beggar's Opera' at the turtle last week - how can you say you can't have a wicked time to idie music...loved it

Fluff
Where are FEUD?! And LAZYWALL?!

D
who were the winners this week i missed the show :(

Alan McGee
All bands are poo compared to LOOK LOOK (DANCING BOYS)

Reply to "the fonz"
Dry your eyes, get over it. Btw, you are NOT the fonz. You are Ralph Cunningham's Dad at best..

Fan
LAZYWALL. Nuff said.

Andy
After seeing your list of bands that have made it to the final I did a web search for the band THE FURZE as you had nothing on your site about them, and found there website at thefurze.net they have a free song to download at it's brilliant! does anyone know where I can get some more of The Furze songs or anyone know where I can see them play?

timmo
the shake are quality - good to see them getting some recognition!!

Obviously not Graham out of Three Litre
it's not the reading rock festival anymore, it is now the carling weekend: reading. to follow the logic below only bands who drink lager should be picked! reading festival has been an indie festival (with a token rock day on sunday) since the mean fiddler took over in 1989. anyway, everyone had a chance to enter this compo. the girls on the show have wide tastes and will just pick what they like, indie or not. well done to them for giving us all a chance to play when most of us wouldn't otherwise have the chance. ps. i think THREE LITRE should win

whitey
stereodistas all the way www.myspace.com/stereodistas

jakey d
totally agree with this whole indie hating thing, come on guys lets be honest can anyone actually have a good time to it? and also not only is it indie stuff but lady soverigne!!!!!!!!now come on thats a discrase..

the fonz
reading rock is not indy! it is as it states READING ROCK! and no i do not mean metel! i mean rock and thats were rock is supposed 2 be held! the reason franz freaking ferdinand r headlining r because its being taken over by tight jean wearing indie gimps! i personally think the festival shud b split! indie one weekend and a proper rock fest the next so it will stop depressing indie lovers taking over what was once one of the best rock festivals in England! the reason im p*ssed off is cus the band i no deserve a shot at this and now there chances r slim to none cus quite clearly the judges r all indie lovers and its not fair you shud at least get a range of judges 2 vote that way it wud b fair and the good bands will be heard!and maybe i wud support the bands who r getting voted if i cud tell the difference between them but they all sound exactly the same rubbish singers being really depressing singing to the same tune in EVERY song! bbc berkshire please do somthing and let the decent bands have a shot at it!

Purple Lady
No one is sulking just stating a fact!!... It would be nice for unsigned bands to come through tho. Come on lets give em a chance!! we will gladly support them, whoever they are.

DJ Dreadnought
Anyone who thinks that Reading is purely and simply a Rock festival probably hasn't been there since Meat Loaf got bottled off...

Neil
Sorry but that's a load of bull!....Where does it say Reading 'Rock' Festival??!! From what I've seen of the line-up it's 50-50 between indie and rock groups. And Reading have just as many indie fans as rock do so don't go there. I get the impression the judging isn't being taken that seriously and therefor I think bands should take the results the same way. Maybe there could have been a 'rock' slot, indie slot and an accoustic slot??

A band in the comp...
Everyone is hurling around genres like they are clearly defined, discreet entities. The bands going through are not all indie. Mr Fogg is not indie? No just a damn good song writer. What is Rock? do you mean metal? Go to download... I personally believe reading is a pretty indie festival all round. Who is headlining friday?... Franz Freaking Ferdinand! The epitemy (sp?) of indie in my opinion. Stop sulking cos your friends arent winning and support the bands that are.

Sairz
I also hav 2 agree with the fonz comment! I am upset with how the comp is turning out i am a valued listener to the session aswel as bbc berks! First in this comp all i hear is indie cr*p all playing the same chords! Then i find out most of the judges are around there mid-20s or over and they listen to slow university indie bands so its in there favour! Reading is a ROCK town and home of Reading ROCK festival so lets get some ROCK bands on the bill and send the indie bands to Glastonbury and Isle of Wight IT IS NOWHERE NEAR FAIR ON THE UPBEAT BERKSHIRE BANDS! All indie will prob be bottled if there are any more getting through! boooo! Upset bbc berks fan!

*donna*
*coughs* !FUSED82! *coughs* people will love them!!! nearly as much as i do!!

The Flanders Pigeon Murderer
Where's the toilet?

Sergeant Benton
Wire Jesus didn't die for MY sins!

Elrond
Do have to agree that it's all rather farcical at the moment. I don't think it does the bands involved or the show any favours at all!

the fonz
can i just say the whole point in this compatition was 2 find new talent in berkshire, and unsigned bands at that! so can i ask why every band that has been chosen so far are all depressing indie crap or already signed bands?im sorry but reading ROCK festival is as it states a ROCK festival not reading indie festival. no1 can dance 2 that stuff and no1 can have a good happy time 2it neither because its all the same slow depressing kinda music.its fair enuff for the people who like that stuff but at a rock festival is not the place 2 watch it! its unfair to the really good up beat bands who have a laugh and put everything in2 there music, and really want 2 make it, and dont sound the same as all the other bands in the compatition, i know a band thats entered this comp and they diserve 2 win hands down they sing with feelings there songs are awsome and they love 2 play live and they sound great live!im not gonna mention the name of the band as i dont want 2 ruin there chances but u seriously need 2 listen to the music properly before you choose yet another indie band..sort it out pleeeeeease! thankyou for your time!x :) x

Jan - Pink Tractors Fan
I thought this was for unsigned bands, as Neil say's what chance do the unsigned bands have in this comperition. Come on Pink Tractor's show them how its done.....

charles the first
Salvage all the way baby. They sound like a 'proper' band. I am fed up with all this cheap sounding rollocks that seems to be dime a dozen. Maybe salvage will be the breakout band for reading?

Neil
I think it's a shame that this competition is open to signed groups. As much as I like My Luminaries, surely their own label should be getting them festival gigs?! Another chance fades for the un-signed opportunists.

Jon
What a farce, My Luminaries are on V2! So much for helping out unsigned bands...

through snowy static.. theyre music is brilliant beautiful and inspiring. They're very unique aswell. You see solo acoutic acts, but not usualy a guy and girl. Plus theyre local to the reading scene =) Give Reading some beautiful tunes to listen to

PINK TRACTORS FAN
I think this is a great idea for all Bands to have a chance at playing at Reading Festival. The Bands that get through, we should be with them all the way and saying:WELL DONE!!

The Twins
Pink Tractors - Come on lads you can do it!! Another great young band who deserve the chance to play at Reading - 4 great lads with loads of personalities and fantastic original music.PINK TRACTORS.:-)

answer to Niel
some cr*ppy bands dude. this band - the Shake with a truly aweful singer and equally dodgy band behind HER! another band - "Lanky" (i think the name says enough however think wana b emo - if you can picture it! or indeed believe it!) oh and some other group of numbskulls, can't even remember - that good ui c~! If u ask me i just know that the Junglists and Salvage should be up on that stage - both fantastic bands with more to offer the present music scene than most things that are out at the mo. ESPECIALLY THE JUNGLISTS! i mean how often do you c 7 of 17/18 year olds playing complex stuff, loving it and supporting band's like MYSTERY JETS in places like , oh i dunno Cardiff! when they have school or possibly an A-level or 2 the next day at a school in Newbury!!!!! respect to them all - JUNGLISTS = BRILLIANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Neil
So which bands made it through on Sun 11th??? .....A brilliant idea by the way, great to see unsigned groups being supported.

colonel beefcups
Junglists and Salvage deserve it

i think the junglists should go all the way. they would be a welcome change from a lot of the more mainstream sounding bands playing this year, as they have a far more original sound. they're really good to jump around to as well, and they should get you warmed up for the rest of the days fun. so yes, to conclude, i think the junglists should play at reading this year, they deserve it.
