Rebus interview

By Linda Serck
The last time BBC Berkshire spoke to Rebus, it was January last year in a pub. In keeping with this fine tradition, we meet over a pint at the After Dark club in Reading to find out what they've been up to since. Listen to the interview below.

REBUS ARE:

  • Alex - vocals, synth, guitar
  • Steve - vocals, guitar
  • Chris - vocals, bass
  • Rob - drums

Sitting in the back bar of the After Dark club are four young men who are collectively known as Rebus. Not content with just playing the Reading scene, they've been gigging all round the country and have pricked the ears of Steve Lamacq and XFM. Tonight they're back in town however for what is touted as the LAST EVER gig at the After Dark.

With cans of beer in hand, and Chris clutching a bag of home-made Rebus T-shirts, the Crowthorne quartet speak to BBC Berkshire about tonight's headlining set, their enviable music CV, their new EP, a bit about Big Brother, and a lot about Chris's new haircut. About the last ever After Dark gig: "It's also a bit of an honour to be the last band to play here..."

About their forthcoming EP: "It's called the Red EP because it's red and we couldn't think of another name for it."

About the mystery surrounding one of their songs being used for a mobile phone advert: "We got paid for it and we spent the money very wisely on lots of things but we've never heard it...we'd love to know what's going on!"

About their rehearsal studios: "We spent the money setting up our own rehearsal space in a big prison..."

About their performance: "30 minutes of disco, punk, sex, indie electro...hair!"
