Jules De Jongh
Jules De Jongh

Jules de Jongh

Saturdays from 10:00-13:00

What makes you laugh?

"Being thrown around at high speed sends me into hysterics (roller coasters, the dance floor, speed boats).  I did one of those trampoline bungees at the Oracle one year.  I was feeling very self conscious but could not control my squeals of laughter that increased with each bounce."

What’s your most embarrassing moment on air?

"I work towards that each Saturday."

Where is your favourite place in Berkshire?

"Watermill Theatre, Bagnor is a little piece of paradise.  The idyllic riverside setting alone makes it worth visiting then they put on the most amazing productions time after time."

What are your most memorable jobs before working for BBC Radio Berkshire?

"I've scooped ice cream, manufactured gun safe interiors, bagged groceries, managed a creche, sold satellite dishes and demonstrated grapes all before I was 19, since then my career's been a bit more varied."

What’s your favourite piece of music?

"I often get so involved in my thoughts that I forget about my feelings.  Music takes me straight to them.  Happy heart: Hank Williams "Hey Good Lookin'". Falling in love: Rachmaninoff's Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini. Fighting adversity: Labi Siffre "Something Inside So Strong". Homesick="California Dreaming" by the Mamas and the Papas".

Always heard your name as Jules 'Dee Young' and then went on the website and learned to my astonishment that your surname is actually a Dutch/Afrikaans surname which is actually 'correctly pronounced' completely different. I'll try doing it kind of phonetically, from an English point of view: Der Yong ! Love listening to you!

Bob and Jane Ivetic
Hi Jules, Great to have met you both on Saturday night,we really enjoyed your company and look forward 'tuning in'

Dear Jules, It was good to meet you on Saturday at Newbury Racecourse, Kate enjoyed her day there and I am pleased to say had 3 winners and 2 places so she went home a happy girl with money in her pocket. On behalf of the many listeners many thanks for making Saturday morning so enjoyable to listen to, the variation in your programme and your easy going approach to the many subjects you cover makes the programme what it is. Please pass on my thanks to Paul the OB man as it cannot be easy in conditions like that for him. With best wishes, Philip Highy
