A good start by the Eagles and we looked like scoring in the first 30 seconds, but Jake was denied by the Yateley keeper. The first 5 minutes was all Saints and we came close, but could not finish from 2 early corners. Yateley had an early attempt flagged for offside and this was a frustration for them throughout the game, although they managed to beat our defence on a number of occasions with 3 strong, fast attackers. Things changed on 11 minutes when the Yateley number 14 met a cross with his left foot and volleyed into the top right hand side from 12 yards out. 1-0 Yateley. Some gritty defensive work from Joshua at left back helped to break down a few attacks, but 6 minutes after the first goal, Yateley broke away on the left. Their number 10 sent what appeared to be a cross over from the left of the box, only to see it sail into the top of the goal. 2-0 and unknown territory for the Eagles. On 25 minutes Yateley again beat the offside but thankfully Patrick produced a good save. Saints had a good attack on 30 minutes and Charlie finished with a driving run into the box and lobbed the Yateley keeper from 12000mm (approx). 2-1 and game on. The second half started with more pressure from Yateley and a goal-bound corner was somehow tipped away by Patrick's fingertips. Saints won a number of free kicks and Tom and Lewis had attempts from 25 and 35 yards well covered by the keeper. Pressure was maintained with Saints looking likely to equalise at some stage, however strong defending from Yateley's number 3 and 5 put paid to a number of efforts. On the 55th minute Jake came close but put wide of the left post by only inches. Yateley countered with a strong attack only to see it rise over the bar. With minutes remaining, Woodley reduced their defence to 3 players in a last ditched attempt to get back in the game. Jake came close but another good save by the Yateley keeper. Nathan put the ball past inches past the post from 15 yards after a great run and turn and this was the last real effort of the game. MATCH REPORTER: Mike Bingham |
