First we had super clubs, then superstar DJs, now we have something even more super: playing music YOU want to hear by becoming an iPod DJ for 15 minutes.

Playlist nights invites people to come along with their iPod or any MP3 player, connect it to the sound system, and play 15 minutes' worth of their chosen songs. It's a concept that is the ultimate expression of democratic clubbing.

Want to find out more about iPod DJing in Reading? email: reading@ipod-dj.com

The idea was spawned in north London by Jonny and Lisa Rocket, who were only to happy to lend their brand to Reading's music scene.

Not only is iPod DJing interactive and fun, but it will create a night filled with many different genres and musical tastes. Furthermore it also connects with our musical egos - who doesn't get a bit of a lift when they see others enjoying the music they have chosen?

The event debuts in Reading's Afro Bar, Merchants Place in Reading on Thursday October 13 from 7pm to 11pm.

There will be prizes for the best three DJs.

If you don't want to DJ, just come along and chill out in the relaxing bar and enjoy the variety of music that will be on offer.

Djing is a dying art. Digital is overtaking any other form of media music is on. Vinyl and CD djs are just annoyed they spent all this money for equipment that becomes outdated more and more everyday. and they're also salty technology is allowing anyone to become a dj and they don't feel so special anymore. sorry bro, you don't like the way the future is going pick a new art.

A proper DJ!
Real DJs don't use iPods - they use CD, PC and Vinyl and pay large amounts to maintain their collections unlike most iPod owners who download from illegal sites or peer to peer networks where copyrighted material is blatantly distributed. Proper DJs also pay £200+ a year for licences to play digital based music plus further MCPS, PRS and PPL costs to allow them to play back music digitally plus they have to list all digital tracks they hold. Inviting people to simply bring their iPods or mp3 players along makes a mockery of the DJ industry and the money we pay! Shame on you all! Lets hope this event is covered by the relevant licences - Proper DJs get 'drop-in' visits by licensing officers and get fines for not being covered - so let's hope this is covered - it wouldn't look good for the BBC to be nobbled for illegally gained music on mp3 players.

This sounds like great fun and just what Reading needs - the Afrobar is a great place and this could be a really interesting event. Let's hope nobody plays any Coldplay.

Finally, someone has had the presence of mind to take a cool idea out of the big smoke and bring it to the provincial folk of Reading. Can't wait!

This sounds like the ultimate night out. At last we can to control the music that is played. I will certainly be there!
