Reading-based artist Tristram Aver will stage his first ever solo show at Gallery DNA in Staffordshire from Saturday 30th October to Saturday 4th December 2004.

This show comprises work from the past two years, including pieces on show
publicly for the first time, and demonstrates his growing emphasis on surface texture and visual depth. Trademark synaesthesic explosions of colour and light remain, but are transformed by a freeness of application, where colours and hybrid forms jostle and compete.

The digital works on display both mimic and underpin the practice of layering and
developing a painting. Short-listed for New Contemporaries 2003, Aver’s adoption
of digital techniques and processes constitutes a response to, and an immersion in,
technical culture - harnessing the potential of new media and feeding the results back into a tangled world of paint.

Tristram says: "I see my work as an interpretation of our time, where our world and our responses to it are shaped by technology. The images document the complexities of my relationship with the immediate urban environment.

"Thanks to the advance of mass media, we are visually inundated with an iconography that is universal in design and language. I re-appropriate this information through personal experience - and in doing so re-evaluate the original
context – in order to develop a painterly language that imitates the vociferous world from which it came".

After graduating from the Birmingham Institute of Art and Design in 2002,Aver has
been involved in activities ranging from album cover artwork for the Cooper Temple Clause break through album to producing the visuals for BBC projects.

A member and Vice-Chairman of artist-led studio and gallery Open Hand Open Space in Oxford Road, Reading, his practice has been developing in a high-energy, eclectic environment ever since.

Gallery DNA is a Burton-based contemporary art space with a comprehensive
programme of exhibitions and events to showcase the best of new and established
creative talent. The gallery is open Wednesday to Saturday from 10am.
