Just as we thought the sun had given up on us, Jurassic 5 leap on to the main stage and suddenly the rain stops, the clouds pull away and summer is with us once more. As they bounce around in tracksuits, baseball caps and white trainers, Jurassic 5 pleasures the crowd with infectious hip hop, funky beats, scratching decks and even some a cappella. It's as refreshing as it sounds. Mid-way through their set all four MCs leave the stage giving the two DJs, Cut Chemist and Nu Mark an opportunity to freestyle. Judging by the crowd’s ecstatic response this is undoubtedly the highlight of the whole set. Formed back in 1993, Jurassic 5 belongs to the old school hip-hop movement of LA. As all the band members regroup once more on stage for Concrete Schoolyard, lyrics such as "Lets take it back to the concrete streets, original beats, real-live MCs" remind us all why this group are one of the most popular artists of their genre. As Jurassic 5 leave the stage for one final time, the crowd cheer in mass appreciation. Not only have they provided a welcome antidote from thrashing metal and scrawling guitars, they have also, more importantly, fended off the rain! |
