About Us

Our Purpose

BBC Wildlife Fund is a distinctive conservation charity.

We strive to do two things:

  • Protect endangered wildlife

and

  • Support the people that live alongside these wonderful creatures and plants.

That’s because we do not think that caring for wildlife and caring for people should be mutually exclusive.

We do not just fund projects that protect endangered animals and plants and the wild places they need. We also try to protect and improve the natural habitats that wildlife and humans share.

We do this by taking the opportunity where we can to make an impact on human poverty and quality of life issues as well as on the conservation of wildlife.

So each of the projects we support should:

  • Address a clear plight
  • Protect an important species which is key to an ecosystem
  • Involve local communities
  • Have been effective in the past and have plans for the future

To get a more detailed idea of how we operate as a charity and a financial breakdown of how we target the funds raised to a range of wildlife conservation projects, please see our annual report (pdf). and our annual review (pdf)
