Professor Mahendra Varma

Professor Varma was born in South Africa, of Indian origin. He graduated in medicine, in Dublin, from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and subsequently undertook a PhD at Trinity College, Dublin. He trained at the Royal Victoria and Belfast City Hospitals and is currently employed in the NHS as a Consultant Physician/Cardiologist.

Professor Varma is actively involved with Northern Ireland Chest Heart & Stroke Association and is currently Chairman of its Governance Board. He also works with the European Society of Cardiology in developing strategies to combat heart disease and is a member of the Northern Ireland Research & Ethics Committee.

Professor Varma’s interests include food and wine, music and opera, and he is a member of Fermanagh District Council Arts Committee.
