Category: BBC 1Xtra; Service licences

The remit of 1Xtra is to play the best in contemporary black music with a strong emphasis on live music and supporting new UK artists.

The schedule should also offer a bespoke news service, regular discussion programmes and specially commissioned documentaries relevant to the young target audience (15-24 year olds), particularly - although not exclusively - those from ethnic minorities. We issue each BBC service a service licence, setting out what we expect it to achieve and how much it can spend.

This service licence was reissued in April 2011 to reflect the Trust's approval of series-stacking for radio, also reflected in the iPlayer annex of the BBC Online service licence.

Current service licence

This service licence was reissued in May 2013 with an amended annual budget for the financial year 2013/14. The new budget reflects any approvals already given by the Trust including those within the Delivering Quality First strategy.
