The universal nature of the licence fee means that for the Trust, getting BBC services free at the point of use to everyone in a way that is convenient for them is a key priority. It also means that the BBC itself needs to reflect the diversity of licence fee payers across the UK.
The Trust oversees the BBC’s distribution arrangements, seeking to maintain routes to BBC content that are open, accessible, easy to use and convenient as well as representing good value for money.
The BBC distributes its content through broadcast channels like digital terrestrial television, satellite and cable, and also by making its BBC’s content available on the growing number of other platforms and devices through syndication.
The Trust has set the framework for such arrangements through its syndication policy.
