Getting the best out of the BBC for licence fee payers

Trust review of BBC ALBA

21 December 2010

The Trust's approval of BBC ALBA in 2008, following a Public Value Test, made it clear that that the Trust needed to carry out a further review of BBC ALBA, before switchover in Central and Northern Scotland commenced, to examine whether the service was fulfilling its goals. This was to enable the Trust to decide whether BBC ALBA's service licence should continue, and so whether the BBC should remain involved in its current form. We also decided that this review should examine whether or not BBC ALBA should be carried on Freeview and what the future of Gaelic content on BBC Two should be.

We have also published the supporting evidence behind this decision.
