Consultation on the BBC's Election Guidelines

The BBC Trust ran a consultation on the BBC's Election Guidelines from 19 January to 2 February 2010. The consultation period was limited to two weeks to allow the BBC to have Election Guidelines in place in the event of a General Election. The below document summarises the consultation responses and the Trust's conclusions.

The Election Guidelines set out the particular standards set by the BBC during the period leading up to and including an election day. They are additional to the standards set by the BBC to ensure that its content is duly impartial. The Election Guidelines are reconsidered periodically and are reissued from time to time to ensure they are up to date and fit for purpose. The Guidelines are developed by the BBC Executive and are brought to the Trust for approval.
