BBC Trust statement on Ofcom PSB review

The BBC Trust issued the following statement after Ofcom published its second consultation into the future of public service broadcasting.

"The BBC is committed to helping secure a strong and sustainable future for public service broadcasting. Ofcom’s document demonstrates that this is a highly complex area with many competing views; not least because of the fast changing nature of the industry and the current economic climate. Questions of policy and funding should therefore be considered carefully and with full consideration for longer term impacts. The BBC has a role to play, including through forging partnerships with other PSBs, that could go a long way in addressing the issues facing the sector, and the BBC will be publishing more detailed proposals later in the year.

The Trust will ensure that the BBC continues to make a strong and effective contribution to UK public service broadcasting and cooperates with the rest of the industry in the best interests of the British public."
