Coastline Inspiration
On a boat trip around the coastline of Cadaques, local fisherman Moises Tibau points out the extraordinary rock formations that made such a big impression on the young Dali and found their way into his most important works.
Indeed, the shape of the face in The Great Masturbator (previous picture) was based on a rock on the coast near Cadaques in Spain and is testament to Dali's emotional attachment to the Catalan landscape. The tiny figures in the background possibly represent a young Dali and his mother.
