Dali's unique gallery
Towards the end of his life, Dali created a museum in Figueres in north-east Spain unlike any other gallery in the world. Dali experimented with optical tricks and produced astonishing images which played with perspective and challenged visitors to see the same image in radically different ways. Imma Parada from the Dali Theatre-Museum explains his tricks, with reference to Dali's intriguingly titled Gala Contemplating the Mediterranean Sea Which at Twenty Meters Becomes the Portrait of Abraham Lincoln.
Whimsical and playful but with the skills of an Old Master, Dali's provocative work - plus his passion for publicity - paved the way for the Pop Art movement that was to follow.
