Christ of St John on the Cross (1951)
Dali was never one to sit still. After the Second World War, he became fascinated with science and religion. Christ of St John on the Cross, which hangs in the Kelvingrove Art Gallery in Glasgow, is one of his greatest works from this period.
The painting was bought for £8,200 in 1952. People were sceptical about its price tag at the time, but today it is hugely popular: in 2005 it was voted Scotland's favourite painting.
