About Modern Masters

Alastair Sooke

Modern Masters is a four-part television series detailing the life and work of four giants of 20th century art: Henri Matisse; Pablo Picasso; Salvador Dali and Andy Warhol. During the course of the series, presenter and journalist, Alastair Sooke, explores why these artists are considered so important and examines how their influence can still be seen in our world today.

A website accompanies the series and features a virtual exhibition of the modern masters, curated by Sooke, plus ten specially authored Art Walks in cities across Britain, providing an opportunity to see art, sculpture and architecture influenced by these masters first hand.

Arts Commissioning Editor Mark Bell discusses Modern Masters on the BBC TV Blog.

The Victoria & Albert Museum in London also hosted an exhibition inspired by the series - Modern Masters: Warhol, Matisse, Picasso and Dali - from May 1 to June 23 2010.
